RALLY NEWS NO.5 Dolgellau service..Sat.2.30 UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 4 Dyfi 1st (2) Mark Higgins/Bryan Thomas (V/hall) 1.02.09.3 2nd (3) Neil Wearden/Trevor Agnew (Vauxhall)1.02.43.4 3rd (59) Mark Perrott/Garry Mansell (Lancer)1.03.01.4 4th (11) Marko Ipatti/Kari Kajula (Lancer) 1.03.41.0 5th (18) Mike Brown/Aled Davies (Lancer) 1.04.29.9 6th (56) Stuart & Steve Egglestone (Lancer) 1.04.38.3 7th (4) Jarmo Kytolehto/Arto Kapanen (CoupeF2)1.04.39.7 8th (16) Gavin Cox/Tim Hobbs (Lancer) 1.04.54.9 9th (27) Johann Kressner/Gunnar Barth (Lancer)1.05.15.8 10th (35) Per Johansson/Tony Carlsson (Saab) 1.05.58.0 Mark Higgins continues to set fastest times on this Vauxhall Rally of Wales, the former British Champion appearing unruffled and telling us "The Astra is working very well, we're making little changes, very small things, as we go along. That second visit to Dyfi was good, the stage was pretty clean". His Vauxhall team mate Neil Wearden seemed just a trifle despondent that he couldn't make more impression on Mark's times, and said "I don't want to drive much harder, thought I was going pretty well, although Trevor thinks maybe I was a little wild in places. I'm going to try and change back to the softer springs, same as Mark's and see if that will help". Behind the lead Vauxhalls, Mark Perrott still holds 3rd place and leads group N conclusively, and reports absolutely no problems. Marko Ipatti feels that he is maybe just a little rusty on the Welsh stages, while 5th placed Mike Brown rues the seconds lost behind the stricken Puma of Pykalisto. That was on stage 3 and apparently after Brown struggled past the Ford, the marshals stopped the stage and brought the Puma out through the stage start, so that no one else suffered any time loss. Stuart Egglestone in 6th place feels that he is still driving the 4 wheel drive car like a F2 machine, and for example is struggling around the hairpins. Other stories include..Jarmo Kytolehto telling us that stage 4 was his first without any problems, although his tyres went off slightly towards the end. Niall McShea is now flying in the super 1600 category, and was 15s quicker than Mats Andersson in the Proton. McShea telling us "We've changed injectors, spark plugs and the coil pack to get rid of the second misfire. The first one was down to a fuel supply air bleed stuck. One of our problems now is dust in the air from the cars in front". Julian Reynolds' Celica has marks and scores up the side, testimony to being in the trees in stage 3. PANAROUND/MINTEX 2000: Glyn Jones leads after 3 stages by just under 9s from Steve Petch with Dave Weston 3rd, Eaton 4th, Robinson 5th, Morgan 6th. Humphreys retired with rear diff problem, Woodside out with broken oil pipe on top of gearbox. WEST CORK: Murphy leads by 12s from McGarrity with Boland 3rd all in Subarus. Fowden in gearbox trouble.
