A very happy Robin Phillips along with co driver Michael Gibson
arrived here at the final regroup having completed a unique hat-trick
on the Formula Karting Mourne Rally. To add to the pairs
joy they now extend their lead at the head of the Woodland Furniture
Northern Ireland Championship, Robin was almost lost for words
saying "it is just great to do the treble when I had the
opportunity".
David Armstrong and Herbie Blackburn come home a fine second
in their Escort Cosworth, despite a final stage scare when they
hit a sheep on Cooley Mountain, loosing them some time, but David
was more worried about the damage it did to the radiator.
Camillus Bradley scores a fabulous third place overall and takes
the two wheel drive honours along with co driver Danny O'Neill.
Glen Allen and Eugene Donnelly pulled out all the stops over
that last Cooley stage, setting a amazing fastest time to secure
fourth place overall after tying with Denis Biggerstaff prior
to going into the test. Biggerstaff and co driver Guy Carisle
collect some useful championship points with fifth place overall,
just pipping George Robinson to the post by one second.
Congratulations go to Newry and District Motor Club along with
Monaghan Motor Club on this cross border event, Clerk of the
Course Des O'Loan running an impeccable event to schedule all
day.
Some last minute dramas include GpN leaders John and James Cairns
in their Impreza who were well into the top ten, only to break
their gear-box on the final test loosing over 2 minutes, and
handing the GpN mantle to Richard Hogg in his Lancer.
In the Border Championship Micky McArdle scores well today with
8th overall, although it would seem that Paul Gallagher and Karl
Read have taken a maximum score by winning their class, and they
could very well be heading the championship.
Thanks very much to all that helped especially Ian Beasant....
Michael Patterson and Zoe Todd
