Even a misted up windscreen in today's wet conditions has not
deterred Eamonn Boland, his Subaru setting fastest times through
stages 10, 11 and 12. Jon Mercer did set fastest time through
the first of today's stages and then second fastest through Palace,
Donard and Old Town. Boland commented here at service "Nice
and easy". Mercer was more than pleased with his show.
Steve Fleck was 3rd overnight but his Subaru has suffered turbo
pressure drop off on the last couple of stages and he is losing
time to David Armstrong, even though Border Champion Armstrong
feels he is not driving so well today. Armagh man Armstrong commented
"We have had some intercom problems, but really it's just
not clicking".
Steve Hendy is having a nice run in 5th place, while Phil Hendeson
is hanging on to 6th despite feeling his Metro 6R4's suspension
is set much too hard for these slippy conditions.
News of further retirements include..William Carroll, Jon Stangle
and Dave Turnbull - not clocking in here to service. Carroll
was 8th overall after stage 9 but apparently his Escort Cosworth
is parked up at the side of the road in stage 10. Jon Stangle's
Darrian was 9th but it has succumbed to a gasket failure between
the carb and the manifold which could have caused damage to the
engine. Dave Turnbull's Escort suffered power steering failure
in stage 10 and was then reportedly parked up after stage 11.
Johnny O'Sullivan had an overshoot in stage 10, the Killarney
man reckoning he very much needs new tyres here at service. John
Sheehan had a big overshoot on shiny tar in stage 11. John Rooney
is trying very hard to get some daylight between himself and
David James in the battle for the class in the Triton Showers
South East championship. Monaghan man Rooney now over a minute
up on David James. Kieran O'Neill hit a bank in stage 10 and
then the wiper fell off in stage 11, so he has dropped a bundle
of time. Almost 5 minutes in fact.
Eamonn Murphy has apparently stopped at Ballywilliam village
in stage 12. Derek Smith has been going really well in the rain
to move up many places. Guy Woodcock has also been going really
well in the rain and has moved into the top 10 as well as leading
Formula 2. Gareth Lloyd is now 11th, Trevor Culbert slipped to
12th after his bump on stage 9. Tim Ball is going really well
in the rain and he is 13th, John Rooney 14th, John Sheehan 15th.
Aaron McHale has just come into service, enjoying his run in
the Nova and lying 2nd in class, having a ball on the wet slippy
roads - just like his father!
