Subsequent to our last evening bulletin on day 1, stage 8 was
cancelled. This obviously meant the overnight totals were
reduced. The cancellation was due to the emergency services
being called into the stage as a precaution to check if everyone
was alright when a "OO" car went into the ditch.
As can be seen above, it does not affect Eamonn Boland's lead
significantly. The Wexford man still has over 2 minutes
in hand over Jon Mercer. Further down the order though,
many of the drivers are fighting for every second, and the anomaly
of the interrupted stage 8 would have had a significant effect.
Just outside the leaderboard we have drivers such as David James,
who was going well yesterday, but had a few niggly problems plus
a road penalty. David is 16th. John Rooney flew home from
the USA for the rally and he is 17th. Tim Ball in the green Darrian
is 18th. John Sheehan is 2nd in gpN with his Subaru and 19th
overall. Kieran O'Neill 20th. Down in 23rd is Jimmy
Lambert. He was setting a scorching pace in his Mk2 Escort,
recording times in the top 10, but road penalties subsequent
to the alternator falling off and then an oil leak, have knocked
Jimmy back.
Some of the overnight class leaders include: Eamonn Murphy who
leads cl.11 in his Escort. Guy Woodcock leads F2 with husband
and wife team Pete & Jo Johnson 2nd. Liam Wall leads
cl.10 in his 1600 Escort. Chris Harden (138) leads class 9 in
his Nova. Billy Collins leads class 10A. David Parle is
ahead in the under 2 litre gpn division in his Peugeot. Howard
Moore leads cl.6 in his Civic with Aaron McHale 2nd in his similar
Honda. James Travers leads cl.5 in his Ford Ka, the new Ka Champion
still on course for the Triton Showers South East title. Ed O'Neill
leads class 2. Huw Evans leads class 14. Dean Williams leads
class 1. Just some other points of interest include: Jon
Mercer is staying on course to take the runner up spot in the
Safety Devices Championship. Johnny O'Sullivan is poised to move
into the lead of the Southern 4 Championship. 149 cars started
the rally, 108 were still running
this morning. Most of the cross-channell crews made it through
the fuel blockades, amongst them first time competitors here
in Wexford, car No.133, Geraint Davies & Gareth Yelland in
their little Metro, currently 4th in class and going strong.
