Robert Woodside set the forest tracks alight on his 2nd visit
to the Parkmore test, his McKinstry Subaru stopping the clocks
on 3.33. Closest to him was Denis Biggerstaff, Maurice
Gass and Kevin O'Kane, all on 3.40. McGarrity was back
on 3.45 as was Eamonn Boland - Parkmore was never Derek's favourite
stage. Denis Biggerstaff was trailing his Woodland Championship
rival Robin Philips at first service. Denis admitted to
getting a bit screwed up and over anxious over stages 2 and 3.
Whatever sort of pep talk he gave himself, it certainly worked.
The current champion was fastest through stage 4, Glenariff the
first one after service and then set that brillian time through
stage 5 Parkmore. Not as briliant Woodside of course, who is
starting to look more and more the man today. Stage 6 should
tell the tale - if McGarrity can pull something back there, we
could have a race to the finish.
Former Champion John McKeown has a new door on his Sierra and
he is starting to set good times, but having lost so much time
with his stage 1 accident he is really out of the hunt.
Maurice Gass has managed to soften the rear suspension of his
Millview Fuels Celica at service and it seems to be paying off,
with that super time through stage 5. Eamonn Boland clipped
a rock in Parkmore and damaged the front spoiler of his NVD Impreza
WRC. Jimmy Logan did not appear into service, reason as
yet unknown. Richard Hogg continues to lead gpN overall,
but in Woodland championship terms Raymond Mason and Raymond
Johnston are now tying on 20.01. Jim Crozier was just a few seconds
behind these 2 in his Proton, still waiting for his time after
stage 6. Glenn Allen was his fabulous all sideways self
at the end of stage 5, his Mk2 Escort recording 3.47 to put Glenn
on a class winning total of 20.10. Keith White was 1s slower
through that 2nd visit to Parkmore with 3.48, Keith a wee bit
worried that he rear wheel drive Escort Cosworth lookalike seemed
to be going off a cylinder towards stage finish. John McCarthy
from Cork is now on a total of 20.08, just outside the leaderboard.
Latest on Jim Crozier is that the gap to Mason & Johnston
has crept up to around the 10s mark, Jim had a slight excursion
in Parkmore 2. More news to follow..BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON..with
thanks to Michael Patterson & Sammy Hamill |
