Derek McGarrity was just 1s slower than Andrew Nesbitt through stage 6, Trusk Lough. That is the closest anyone has been to breaking Andrew's monopoly.   Cross Refrigeration man Andrew looked comfortable as he came into service, reporting no problems at all with his Cuisine de France Subaru WRC.  Austin McHale feels he is starting to find the limit of his Corolla, this is the first time really at international level that he has had a good run with the car. James Cullen was frustrated when he arrived in here to service, he feels he was driving really well over the last few stages but the times just weren't there. He feels perhaps he should have fitted new tyres but more importantly the Impreza suspension seems to be bottoming out.  Daniel Doherty's fine run had a slight hiccup in stage 5 when the car slid wide after the jump bridge before the quarry and punctured a rear left wheel.

Paul Harris put the Porsche off the road in Letterleague, at the bumpy hairpin before the junction, we hear that he got going but there is no sign of him here at service. John Tully has retired his Escort because of fuel feed problems. The reason for Ivan Stewart's retirement was that a head gasket went on stage 2.

Eugene Donnelly has a broken manifold in his Bio Clear Escort G3 but it doesn't seem to be affecting his times. His team mate Donie O'Sullivan has a slightly sticking throttle but the Killarney man is still going well.  Hugh Martin Doherty had a super time in stage 5 but then lost at least 30s in Trusk Lough with another broken rear driveshaft. Hugh Dunne is having engine problems with his Legacy, he says it hasn't been pulling well out of junctions from the start. He may be forced to retire.  Cathal Rogers is unhappy with his Impreza, the engine is cutting out.  Glenn Allen got a rear right puncture, the car launched itself up a bank and he was lucky to get away with it. On an earlier rallynews we mentioned that Philip Shaw was leading cl.11 - they are actually cl.11A and are leading their category anyway. In gpN Seamus Heron leads from Nigel Hickland with Natalie Barratt 3rd. Brendan Kelly is catching fast. Stephen Harris is struggling with a seized up left arm. More news later..BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
