Austin McHale hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons at the end of Knockalla when he crashed his Toyota within sight of the flying finish.  Austin managed to drive the car out of the stage, but has not arrived here at Milford.  Ian Greer was first on the scene and reported "There was soil all over the road, tyre smoke everywhere. Austin forced the car away past the control. We lost a few seconds when the spectators waved us down a bit".  James Cullen commented "It's a shame for Austin, we were having some battle for 2nd. Mind you, we were both getting closer and closer to the edge. I have been going very hard and I think we were both enjoying the battle".  Ellen Morgan chipped in "going hard, going like a dingbat!"

Andrew Nesbitt was fastest over Knockalla with a time of 5.50 and James Cullen 2nd fastest on 5.55 in the Tony Kelly Cars/Four Lanterns Impreza.  Ian Greer, Frank Meagher and Daniel Doherty were equal 3rd fastest with 6.02.  Despite another damaged driveshaft, Hugh Martin Doherty turned in a very creditable 6.06, just 1s down on Eamonn Boland.  News of another retirement is that Donie O'Sullivan has crashed the Bio Clear Escort Cosworth. Eugene Donnelly had quite a moment in there as well banging the rear of his Escort G3..Eugene saying "It was the square left, square right at the chapel, somebody built a house in the wrong place!" Stephen Murphy had a big spin at the 90 left after the crossroads, Micky Joe Morrissey admitting he just didn't get the notes out quick enough. To add to Murphy's misery a chase car ran into the back of his Subaru on the road into Milford.

Phillip Shaw had quite a moment on Kindrum when he went fairly tight through a left hander and hit a hidden stone in the grass, his Escort reared up, bursting 2 wheels and damaging the steering arm. Phillip and co driver Nigel Frazer reporting a 40s time loss but still comfortable in their class lead. Max McKillen lost 6 minutes in Glen when his Peugeot went straight on at the 5 left after the village. Car landed on rocks and damaged the rear beam. Brendan Kelly is now 1m19s behind Seamus Heron in the gpN race..more later..BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
