There were no major changes to the overnight results - Andrew Nesbitt has 25s in hand over Frank Meagher, with Ian Greer a further 26s back promising a tough battle over today's 8 special stages.  Frank O'Mahony was listed as 7th overall after stage 8 yesterday, but the Cork man withdrew his McKinstry Subaru before parc ferme. It would appear that the Impreza has a damaged piston in the engine, the same cylinder as has given trouble before, which could be down to a faulty fuel injector.

In the classes overnight young Paul Dempsey, co driven by his brother Stuart on his first rally, leads class 1 in the Suzuki. Their father John was 14th in the overnight results having lost 5 mins. when he put his Subaru into the ditch. Class 2 is led by Ed O'Neill from Owen O'Neill, both in Civics. Aidan Long leads cl.3, Roy (Dougal) White leads gpN from Liam Davis with Nigel Hickland 3rd, all in Lancers. John Sheehan is 4th in gpN in his Subaru after what he describes himself as a middling enough first day. Niall McShea leads cl.6 from Sean Keenan in the Corsa Kit Car. Sean still on a learning curve with the little Opel. Cross channell husband and wife team Pete & Jo Johnson lead cl.7 in their Astra ahead of Barry Coleman in the Escort Maxi. Barry was really struggling for grip in the high powered front wheel drive Ford.  Thomas McCreesh leads cl.9, Fintan Canty cl.10, Gerard O'Connell cl.11, Greg McCormack cl.12. Kieran O'Neill cl.11A.
The Ford Kas are all running in the Modified section because of regulations governing fire extinguishers and Oliver Stanley leads from John O'Dowd with Shaun Woffinden 3rd.  In the Historic part of the rally Lloyd Hutchinson tops the list in his Mini by 10s from Martin Freestone with John Farrell 3rd. The latter 2 drive Mk1 Escorts. Dessie Nutt is 4th on the list and leading "full" Historic from Philip Wylie in his MGB. Philip is just 3s behind Nutt and indeed was in front for many of the early stages, his cause not helped by a box full of neutrals at one stage. More news later. BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON..our thanks to Brendan Cahill and Dougie Hughes.
