Eamonn Boland set a scorcher of a time through stage 2, Tubrid, the Wexford man's new Subaru world rally car starting to show it's worth.  Eamonn is still settling in to the car, still a bit hesitant with the gears, but really going extraordinarily well in the high tech machine. Many thought that Frank Meagher would be out on his own here on his home patch, but the Cloneen man reports his Escort WRC sliding about all over the road, doesn't know for sure what is causing it, but certainly will change on to fresh tyres here at service.  Many of the drivers reported similar feelings, that the roads are deceptively slippery. Donal O'Donovan continues his good run, Pat Lordan saying "Its clicking into place so well, its flowing now, even the pace notes are easier to read".

Pete Doughty was off the pace, Pete has changed to DS3000 pads and the brakes are snatching and sliding all over the place, he is going to change back to his normal brakes.  Several drivers had overshoots in that 2nd stage, including Paul Harris, the Donegal man was having a real cut at it up to there but lost a little time.  Michael Barrable's Toyota spun at a junction. Tim McNulty slowed when some smoke and fumes came into his Celica. Jim Harrison had a few very hairy moments in the stage, Jim had pace notes one particular corner too fast.  George Cullen found his rear tyres going off, George was forced to change to second hand rubber on the way out to the first stage, when one of the rear wheels developed a problem.  Hugh Dunne went on to softer tyres and was a bit happier in stage 2. News of early retirements is that Jimmy Lambert's Escort stopped on the first stage. Tom Holton's F2 car stopped on the 2nd and Brian McKenna's Celica is reportedly on its roof ins tage 2. Micky McArdle and Tom Taafe are just 2 drivers in gearbox trouble as they came into service. In the Ford Ka Championshp - John Carrol was fastest on first stag e by 2s from John O'Dowd, Stanley a further 6 in arrears. More news to follow..BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
