Rally leader Paul Harris got a scare in that 2nd stage, Lough Bofinna, when his engine cut out half way through the 11 mile test.  Paul discovered to his horror that he had switched on all the heater fans to try to keep the windscreen clear, but missed the engine fan.  The temperature was through the roof, coolant boiling out of the overflow.  He re-started the motor and kept going, the engine temperature returning to normal by stage finish, but who knows if there is any damage done. Probably not.  Second on the road, Tim McNulty, told us that all things considered, the road conditions, misting up windscreens and getting used to Helen O'Sullivan reading the notes for the first timel, he is reasonably satisfied.

Michael Barrable went through stage 2 with no anti lag going on his Toyota, Michael just happy that the radiator that was damaged in the stage 1 off road excursion had held out.  Pete Doughty reported 2 spins from the first stage, settled in well on stage 2 and reckons there is a lot more to come.  Liam McCarthy is having a miserable run so far with zero visibility through his misted up screen, Liam's total 21.09.  Donie O'Sullivan is on 20.04.  Frank O'Mahony is struggling to keep his Subaru windscreen clear with a piece of rolled up newspaper.  Ray Breen has had a couple of overshoots but otherwise OK.  Roy White was just 6s slower than Patrick Elliott through stage 2 - we had a wrong time for Roy for stage 1, he was actually 23s slower than Elliott.

Some other gpN times for stage 2 incolude Jon Tainton on 9.56 - none of the drivers after Anthony O'Halloran got a proper time for stage 1 as Richard Casey crashed and blocked the stage. Liam Davis was 9.59 for stage 2.  Anthony O'Halloran set a pretty stunning fastest time overall for stage 2, the Manta stopping the clock on 9.28. Patrick Elliott was 2nd fastest on 9.33 then it was Paul Harris with 9.35. James and Ann Foley are probably the pace setters in class 6 in their gpA Civic, they recorded 10.22. Young Killybegs man Stuart Darcy on his first visit to Skibbereen did 10.30 in his gpN class 3 Civic. More news later...if we don't get washed away in this monsoon! BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON
