This SEAT Jim Clark Memorial Rally enters Day 2 with very little time difference between the top cars, and all to play for.  Neil Wearden and Tapio Laukkanen each had a turn at leading through the first night, and as can be seen above, it is Mark Higgins at the top starting this long second leg.  Jarmo Kytolehto has been the model of consistency to hold on to 2nd place.

74 cars started the rally and 63 are still running.  There have been very few retirements at the top end of the scale - Jonny Milner went out when his Toyota went on fire.Mats Andersson's Proton stopped with a mechanical problem in SS10. While top seeds Jock Armstrong and Andrew Pinker are running down the order after various problems. Overnight class leaders include: David Williams co driven by Brian Hardie, ahead in class 1 in their Metro from jamie Cook in the Skoda. Class 2 is led by Steve Head (Proton) with Martin Newcombe 2nd in his Civic, and young Ian Barrett in the Delphi backed Vauxhall Corsa not too far in arrears in 3rd place.  Class 3 is led by Simon Thomas with Liz Jordan on the pace notes in their Peugeot from Alan Pearson (Integra). As can be seen above Neil Simpson/Mike Gibson are leading group N.  Simon Maugher is the highest placed Ford Puma in the Puma Championship and also leads class 5 from the similar Fords of Ben Briant and Ian Chadwick.

Justin Dale leads class 6 and also the Super 1600 division from David Higgins, Niall McShea and Martin Rowe.  Interestingly, Rory Galligan is 5th in cl.6, 19th overall and leading the Peugeot Super 106 Cup contenders.  Just seconds behind is Seamus Donnelly and then Paul Wedgbury. Neil Buckley won the Trophy Rally from the similar Polo of David Bateson, while Mark Simmonds leads the Land Rovers from Mark Saunders with Alan Paramore 3rd. Further retirements include Ryan Champion who withdrew his Peugeot after driveshaft problems when well placed in the Super 106 Cup.Tonight's leg is also a counter in the Scottish Championship. Almost 100 cars will join the fray with Brian Lyall very much the man to beat in his Subaru WRC, especially in the absence of Dom Buckley. Championship leader Trevor Moore will be hard pushed to make any impression over these fast Berwickshire asphalt stages. More news from service. BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON
