On our last RallyNews we related the story of Jonny Milner's
Toyota going on fire and blocking stage 4. Eventually the
fire brigade had to put out the blaze in the adjoining hedgerow,
and indeed in the Toyota. Neil Simpson stopped and gave
Jonny his fire extinguishers, and then finished the stage on
a time of 10.08.3. The following cars did not attempt the
stage, and they have received Pinker's time of 9.57.3.
This may be adjusted later, but at the moment it shows Simpson
in a rather undeserved 9th place.
Just outside the above leaderboard is Keith Robathan in 13th
place, Keith not happy with his Lancer's handling, and is giving
him no confidence. Mike Brown is in 14th place and that
includes a 10s road penalty, which may be removed. Dave Wood
is in 15th place, his Beechdale car still suffering what would
appear to be a leak from a turbo pipe.
Ryan Champion is 18th and leading the Peugeot Super 106 Cup contenders.
Rory Galligan has moved into 2nd place in the Cup, Rory was slowed
earlier when his 106 clipped a bank. Rob Russell is 3rd, Dave
Nutt 4th, Martin Sansom 5th. Simon Maugher is 25th overall and
leading the Ford Puma Championship charge from Ben Briant. Ian
Chadwick is 3rd.
Callum Guy has incurred some road penalties when his mechanics
tried to cure a brake problem and a nipple sheared off a caliper
necessitating the fitting of a new unit in a bit of a panic.
Andrew Pinker is now down in 31st place after his earlier problems.
Charlie Jukes struggled into service with his Proton's steering
rack broken after an off road excursion.
Young Ian Barrett in the Delphi Nova is lying 4th in class N2
behind Martin Newcombe 3rd, Nick Skelton 2nd & Steve Head
1st. Alan Pearson leads cl.N3 in his Honda Integra from
Simon Thomas (Peugeot). Jamie Cook is 7s ahead of Motoring
News' World Rally correspondent David Williams in the battle
for class N1.
