Six times winner of this Killarney

on overnight leader Ray Cunningham. Dessie was 8s faster over
Molls Gap and we have just heard that Dessie has gone 8s faster
as well on the Ballaghbeama stage to leave Cunningham ahead by
just 2s with Shanera stage next on the list. James Stait and Adrian
Kermode were tying after stage 6 but then on Molls Gap Kermode
set a time 18s up on the MG Midget.

Todd Falvey and Nick Whale
set equal fastest times over Molls Gap. James Sutherland was 3rd
fastest but 22s back from the 2 Porsches in front. Sutherland
tried running a type of slick tyre on the rear with no cuts and
it didn’t really work out.
Big news just coming in from
Ballaghbeama is that Nick Whale has beached his Porsche in a ditch
on the narrow section up towards the main road. Nick and co driver
Sally Woods are OK, car believed to be undamaged but stuck.
Mike Doody had a big misfire
in his Mini over Molls Gap. Frank Cunningham reports his Escort
down on power. Martin Ward in the Manta going very well with no
troubles as is Kevin Flanagan. Marc Duez reports his Porsche to
be locking front wheels under braking. Further news from Ballaghbeama
– Marc Duez’ Porsche has broken the gearbox and he
has retired. James Sutherland has put his Porsche off the road
about a mile from the stager finish on the real narrow downhill
bumpy section. Mike Doody’s Mini has stopped. Mick Cremin/Noreen
Mullins are 4th in class with their Saab despite having no wipers
from the 2nd stage onwards.
UNOFFICIAL CLASSIC L/BOARD
AFTER STAGE 8 Molls Gap
1st (50) Martin McCormack/Joe Agnew (Escort) 1.00.08
2nd (91) Tom Randles/Sean Duggan (Escort) 1.00.44
3rd (11) Martin Freestone/Joanne Oakey (Escort) 1.03.51
Tom Randles, driving an ex
Russell Brookes BDF engined Escort, changed to a different tyre
for this loop and it seems to have paid off on Molls Gap second
time over as he was 5s up on Martin McCormack. Martin Freestone
appears to have gone a wee bit better on that one as well.

1st (95) Dessie Keenan/Enda Sherry (Escort) 55.30
2nd (104) Pat Donegan/Andy Donoghue (Escort) 56.27
3rd (96) Phil Collins/Adrian Deasy (Escort) 57.11

7th (109) Brian Brogan/Sean Harris (Escort) 59.39
8th (115) Lloyd & Lester Hutchinson (Mini Cooper) 59.52
Pat Donegan is still struggling
with his gears, did most of the stage in 3rd. Frank Kelly had
a soft front tyre at stage finish. The reason for Kevin O’Donoghue’s
retirement on Molls Gap was that his Escort suffered a broken
half shaft. Brendan Dennehy’s Sunbeam also went out on Molls
Gap with a broken half shaft.
