Paul Harris set equal fastest time with Niall Maguire through stage 5, with Ray Breen 3rd fastest, just 5s behind the 2 Subarus in front. Then it was Donal O'Donovan and Denis Cronin - just 1s each further back. Maguire reported no problems. Paul Harris said his engine is still far from right, Paul sweating heavily, fair evidence as to how hard he is trying. Neither Donal O'Donovan or Ray Breen reported any problems. Hugh Dunne still has some small vibration at the back of the car. Tommy Graham lost some time when he caught up with Dermot Kelly - Dermot reckons that there was a driveshaft broken in his car.

Rory O'Connor told us that his Escort Cosworth was all over the road, not handling at all, possibly as a result of that earlier puncture. Patrick Elliott had his Lancer right up on 2 wheels, the Cavan man still fighting hard to regain some of the ground lost on stage 1.  Micky McArdle had a spin in that stage 5.  James & Ann Foley are going well in their Civic - a broken windscreen telling the story of catching a car on an earlier stage, that was through a gravelly section. James and Ann had to drop back a bit.

Johnny O'Sullivan retired his Escort world rally car a couple of stages ago, reportedly with overheating problems. Anthony O'Halloran did not appear into service after stage 4, the Ruan man having a fraught day. Ed Synan and Tom Holton are 2 further retirements, no sign either of Aidan Walsh or McCartan McCague.

Latest from the Monaco Grand Prix was that Schumacher retired when his suspension collapsed, the exhaust burnt through something!  Coulthard won from Barrichello with Fisi..what's his name in the Benetton 3rd...Frentzen was going well in the Jordan but he clipped the barrier and Trulle was also going well in one of our Eddie's machines, but he had a mechanical problem...more news later from this Circuit of Munster Rally - celebrating it's 50th birthday this year - BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON
