There is some confusion here in Killybegs about times, but unofficially we have Hugh Martin Doherty the winner from Tim McNulty, with Joe McHugh 3rd overall and winning group N.  The confusion at the finish centres on Hugh Martin's start time for stage 8, the final test, Balbane.  We have Hugh Martin clocked on 6.06, McNulty 6.00.  Hugh Martin said at the finish "We had some problem with the start motor before the last stage but otherwise a good run during the day. It was a hot enough pace, but we found it difficult to judge the jumps at times". Tim McNulty told us "It was a great day, we learned a lot about the Donegal roads, it was one of my toughest rallies, I'm delighted to be here, a great event".  Joe McHugh was challenged through the day for gpN by John Cairns, but Cairns crashed out 200 yds before the chicane on the penultimate stage.  Andrew Stewart set some brilliant gpN times towards the end to take 2nd in the category and 4th overall.  His only problem throughout the day some gearbox trouble. Alan Nesbitt went well to take 5th and win class 12, while George Robinson speeded up as the day went on, and as well as finishing 6th, wins class 13. Maurice Moffett wins class 11A from Mac McKenna - Mac's Peugeot down to just 2 gears at the finish and has lost the Border championship title as a result. We are waiting from James McGreal to come into the finish, if he wins his class he gets the Border title, if he doesn't win hisclass, it goes to Paul Gallagher who retired earlier today.

Drivers at the back of the top 10 include Robbie Peoples who has also won class 10A. We are still waiting for times for Patrick Bonar and Martin Lynch, who were not far off the pace a couple of stages ago, David McNulty wasn't so far away either. Young local lad Stuart Darcy was setting some stunning times in his little Honda Civic and he also is not too far away from the leaderboard. Finally for now, well done to new clerk of the course Bobby Cunningham, and all in Donegal MC for a brilliant day's rallying..and also our thanks to the people of Killybegs and the Fleet Inn for their hospitality..BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
