Although Anthony O'Halloran was fastest on the 2nd visit to his
home stage, Ruan, status quo was resumed on stages 7 and 8, with
Paul Harris fastest by just a second or two from Niall Maguire,
with O'Halloran 3rd fastest. The spotlight is really on
Dunlop championship points now, and defending champion, and current
points leader Maguire, can't afford to have O'Halloran finishing
in front of him. Paul Harris tells us here at service that the
mechanics have resolved some of his gearbox problems, he now
has 5th gear but still no first. Maguire reports no problems
but he is working very very hard in that Subaru to keep up the
pace. O'Halloran feels that his Subaru engine is a lot
better now although earlier it had him really worried.
Tim McNulty continues to slide backwards down the leaderboard,
his Celica engine now not fit to rev over 4000 as the fuel pressure
drops, and the clutch trouble gets worse. Richard Casey dropped
a place to Maurice Gass over the last couple of stages, Gass
is flying while Casey's Escort is suffering an electrical problem
which is cutting the power and causing a misfire. Joe McGurk's
intercooler/anti lag problems continue, but he's holding on to
a top 10 position.
Ollie O'Donovan is having a clean run and continues to lead F2.
Kevin Barrett would appear to have retired, unconfirmed reports
suggesting that his Subaru suffered a cracked manifold.
Dessie Keenan was reported to be pushing his Escort at the start
of stage 7 trying to get the engine to fire, still no sign here.
Pat Price, with Killarney's Paul Nagle on the pace notes,
has retired his Lancer because of a severe misfire. Patrick Elliott
continues to lead gpN on a total of 1.14.01 with Jon Tainton
just a bit behind in a similar Mitsubishi. Despite the rear suspension
being very bumpy/bouncy Sean Gallagher, with Victor Carruthers,
complete with official Ford/Martini Focus racing suit, has come
into 10th place with the ex John Gillece championship winning
Escort Cos....more news later..BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON..(thanks
to Joe Rocheford) |
