At 15.15 miles Slieve Gallion is the longest stage in the rally and one of the most technically demanding. Tim McNulty was 3s faster than Derek McGarrity through the stage to leave just 8s between the two. Elfyn Evans in the Pirelli Impreza was the fastest of the Rally NI contenders although just 0.4 of a second quicker than Jonny Greer. At stage finish McGarrity again reiterated that there was nothing left in his Subaru and his older model S11 had no answer to McNulty’s S12. McNulty commented. “We pushed hard”. Darren Gass was just 1s down on McNulty so he must have been pushing pretty hared as well and said that there were jumps in the stage he should have been taking flat out, but couldn’t because his Subaru suspension is just too old now. Darragh O’Riordan was only 3s down on McGarrity’s time and the Cork man felt it wasn’t so bad a time considering he’s never been up that part of the world in the Sper4rins before.

Elfyn Evans, following his quickest Rally NI time, said of his Pirelli Impreza. “The car is just fantastic over the jumps”. Marty McCormack set a good time in his Citroen DS3 but was hoping for a superb time on what is basically him home stage, and he hurried quickly away from the stage, possibly to give the DS3 suspension a couple of clicks. Jonny Greer had at least one moment in the stage when his Skoda landed in the verge after a jump and damaged a rim. Finnish driver Jussi Kumpumaki said this was the best stage for him on the rally. “I like” he said. Mark Donnelly lost a few seconds, his Clio down on power. Tommy Doyle set a respectable time to hold on to 3rd o/a but feels he can’t compete with Marty McCormack in Marty’s backyard! Sam Moffett felt he didn’t really get a good flow going, but his time was alright. David Bogie had the rear rose joints changed on his Lancer at service before Slieve Gullion and said it transformed the car.

Desi Henry continues to lead the UK Citroen Racing Trophy contenders and Kieran Daly is ahead in the Irish division of the Citroens although series leader Scott McElhinney is now speeding up and has closed to within 6s of Daly.

In Historic Category 1 Dessie Nutt in his Porsche 911 has built up a massive lead over Rikki Proffitt and Derek Boyd in 2nd and 3rd. David Stokes (Escort RS1600) l3eads the hotly contested Category 2 from Mark Falvey with Rupert Lomax 3rd, both in Escorts. Tomas Davies leads Category 3 from Conor Corkill (both in Escorts) while Andy Johnston in his ex works Chevette has come into 3rd.
On Rally Germany in stage 10, Panzerplatte, Ogier was fastest by 3s from Loeb. Hirvonen dropped 1m because of a puncture on his Ford. Overall Loeb leads by 4s from Ogier: Sordo is up to 3rd in the Mini: Hirvonen is 4th: Meeke 5th and we think Petter is 6th. On the previous stage both Meeke & Petter had punctures.
