Darren Gass’ lead is now up to 10s and the name of the game for the 23 year old Armagh man is to steady the ship and conserve that lead over the remaining 3 stages. Darren admitted that that will not be easy as 11 times winner Kenny McKinstry is not giving up just yet, and besides, it is not that easy to drive conservatively. It is almost asking for a mistake. Kenny reported a good run through that stage but once again he was a couple of seconds slower than Darren Gass although Kenny’s time at the moment remains provisional. Third placed Garry Jennings reported a “good enough run”. While Denis Biggerstaff in 4th said he was definitely hampered by dust from the Jennings’ Lancer. Mark Doyle lost a second or two when his Celica clipped a tyre wall. Emma McKinstry messed up the final chicane to lose a second or two. Ray Brammer went straight on at a hairpin and he is lying just outside the top 10.
Scottish visitor Billy McClelland reckons his Lancer is still down on power, especially lacking punch out of the corners. Jimmy McRae fitted older type narrow tyres to his Firenza for that run and was within a few seconds of Simon Woodside’s time in the BMW M3. Keith McIvor leads the Historic section in his Porsche 911 and had a great run through stage 5 to reinforce his advantage over 2nd placed Stephen Mawhinney (Sunbeam Lotus). On World Rally Championship Rally Finland with 2 stages to go plus the Power Stage, Loeb leads from Latvala with Ogier 3rd and Petter Solberg/Chris Patterson 4th. Kris Meeke’s Mini sustained a puncture earlier today and he lost 4m and is currently 14th o/a. Craig Breen leads the FIA Academy Fiesta contenders. Alastair Fisher had led but has retired.
