The times above are from the first cars on the road only and also for interest’s sake we have run the International and National times together. We will revert to splitting them later on. LATEST NEWS: Donagh Kelly has slid the Airtricity Lancer off the road on SS8 and is stuck.

Conditions starting Day 2 of this Topaz Donegal Rally were dry and relatively mild. Tim McNulty bolted a set of medium compound slick tyres to his Subaru and set a scorching time through the opening Grovehall stage. Alastair Fisher was 8s down on McNulty and said at stage finish. “We were flat out. The car is fantastic. I can see Tim’s braking points and I’m braking half as far in again”. Tim McNulty said little that is usually a sign that he had a very good run. Derek McGarrity had a steady run whereas Daragh O’Riordan went well and commented. “We’re staying in touch”. Phillip Morrow had a stunning time, fastest conventional GpN.

National Rally leader Daniel McKenna spun his Escort twice and has damaged the rear of the car. Damien Gallagher also had a spin. Barry Meade had half a spin and Manus Kelly slid his Escort sideways into a wall. Manus managed to keep going but it wasn’t a good stage for Escorts. Brian Brogan had a spin in his Escort and also had boiling brakes. Paul Harris lost 20-30s with a spin. Conor Harvey switched from his Civic to a Mk2 Escort for this event and has taken to the car like a duck to water, but he had a spin also this morning.

Some drivers are now in Super Rally and include Declan Boyle: David Bogie: The Bustard brothers and Toni Kelly. Toni retired yesterday with a broken gearbox. Despite a couple of overshoots David Bogie had a good time on that stage this morning, 10s up on the struggling Daniel McKenna.

On Rally Acropolis in Greece Petter Solberg/Chris Patterson but are losing time due to running first on the road. Ogier is on a charge and after 2 stages today has closed the gap to Solberg to just under 20s. Loeb is 3rd a further 3s back. Hirvonen is 4th : Latvala now has turbo troubles.

Finally for now, many thanks to Lucy Whitford for breakfast! Happy Birthday to Alan Ring’s co driver Adrian Deasy and also the lady whom he is walking out with, Clare Walsh, whose birthday is tomorrow!
