Amazingly the first 3 cars on the road, Sean Devine, Connor McCloskey and Derek McGarrity clocked the same time for stage 2 Glenshesk. Both Sean Devine and Connor McCloskey reported some standing water on the roads but apart from that no troubles. Derek McGarrity said he spun his Subaru after the bumps into a square left but he got away without hitting anything.

John & Mandy McKeown were 4th on the road but their Escort Cosworth dropped the best part of 2 minutes with further gearbox troubles.

Cathal Rogers is still fighting for the group N championship win and Cathal reckons his Lancer wasn’t so good over the bumps possibly a legacy of a very heavy landing on the Down Rally. Neil McCance was talking about a very wild moment on the opening stage when he was lock to lock with his Lancer. Alan Carmichael was still recovering from his slight off on the first stage and his time was just a few seconds down on stage 2. His total now is 10m14s and John Walker is on 10m02s.

Colm McFall is driving the Lancer at No.12, Colm has taken from over his brother Brian who was ill before the rally. Wesley Patterson was right up with the front runners in his Escort after stage 1 but clipped a rock on the inside of the turn acute left on stage 2 and suffered a puncture. Wesley knew the rock was there but thought the car would drift out on the sharp turn and it didn’t. His only consolation is that with tyre choice being a real puzzle he now has a selection of tyres on the car as the spare didn’t match up.

Adrian Hetherington is just outside the leaderboard on 9.56.9. He has had to push start his Escort following his big moment on stage 1 when he damaged the front of the car on the jumps. Rodney White felt he didn’t drive well on the 2nd stage but there certainly wasn’t too much wrong with his time and he is now holding 10th o/a. John O’Donnell/Johnny Baird retired their Escort at the start of the first stage when the crown wheel broke, co driver Johnny said. “The only consolation is we’ll be able to watch match of the day!”

Andrew Bushe had a good run in his Saxo this morning to hold a top 10 place although he feels that the French car which is driving today is very “peaky” compared to the ex McShea car hat he has been using recently, and he’s spinning the wheels on the cold dry tarmac this morning. Seamus O’Connell dropped some time when he stalled and then went off the road briefly at a hairpin left in stage 2. Fintan McGrady is having a good run and he’s just on the edge of the leaderboard on a time of 9.55.1. Some other times include: Des Moore 9.51.6: Owen McErlean 9.58.8: Damien Toner 10.08.0.
