Almost without exception the top drivers finished the Glendun Stage on the outskirts of Cushendall and complained about how tight some of the chicanes were and of how much difficulty they had getting their cars in between the bales. Gareth MacHale was first on the road and he was really worried about getting stuck as his Focus WRC seems to have no reverse gear. Derek McGarrity told of his co-driver James McKee working the handbrake through the chicanes as Derek twirled the steering wheel.

Gwyndaf Evans is still running first on the road in RallyNI and he spun his Lancer at one of the chicanes which cost him a few seconds. Craig Breen was fastest of the GpN NI Rally contenders. The young Waterford man had a superb time and said: “That was one of my best stages ever and the car was perfect.” Keith Cronin lost time when he slid his Pirelli Impreza off the road on a square left over gravel near the finish and also had a spin at the chicane. Alastair Fisher said he struggled at the bales but still had the 2nd best RallyNI time.

Jonny Greer collided with one of the bales at a chicane. Jason Pritchard slid his Impreza off the road slightly at a square right and was another to spin at a chicane. Adam Gould has some power steering problems with his Impreza. Neil McCance dropped a few places in the stage and said: “I was driving like an old woman”.
However Neil did say before the start of the rally that he would be strictly in the middle of the road on this one in his quest for Mitsubishi Evo Challenge points.

Tommy Doyle in the Clio reported that his brake pedal was almost going to the floor. Marty McCormack set a fabulous time through the stage. Marty’s Citroen C2R2 Max was over 12 seconds faster than Bryan Bouffier in the new Citroen DS3R3. The bumpy Irish tarmac is all new to the French driver. Molly Taylor’s C2R2 Max stopped in the stage with a reported broken driveshaft.

Daniel McKenna’s stage time was quiet as good as his opening stage. He had a big moment through a series of bends, which took the wind out of his sails and he is still learning his hired Lancer. There is quit a difference between the Mitsubishi and his supremely quick Mk2 Escort. Robert Barrable is still the highest placed Citroen Racing Trophy contender but he was slightly unhappy with his cars handling at the end of Glendun saying that: “It was understeering on lefthand bends.”

Stephen Baxter/Martin Brady have rolled their Fiesta about a mile into the first stage. Stephen was being a little to brave. Both crew members are ok, but the car is a bit “lumpy”.

On Rally Germany in stage 6 Sordo was fastest, Loeb still leads despite a spin and Solberg has had another puncture.
