With 18s in hand and just 3 stages to go Michael Barrable has a good grip on this ALMC Rally over 2nd placed Damian Cole in a similar Ford Focus WRC. Cole, maximum points scorer on the last 3 MSA Asphalt Championship rallies, said here at service. “Everything is going well but I think now I will concentrate on points”. Michel Barrable admitted to half falling asleep through stage 5 where Cole was 2s quicker, but through stages 4 and 6 Michael was the dominant man.

Michael O’Brien produced a joint fastest time through stage 4 but on the last 2 stages he seemed to drop a little time. He told us. “I am not used to the left hand drive and on the very narrow lanes I had a few moments and backed off. The car is very nervous and my left foot is hovering over the brake. I need to strap it to the floor!” Simon Mauger continues to impress in his Mk2 Escort and said. “Its very slippy for us in 2 wheel drive but we’re going well although at times I’m pushing too hard and taking too many risks. The weather is very challenging but I’m enjoying it”.

David Kynaston in the Audi A3 Quattro reckons that he is going to soften the suspension in the car again and now wants to concentrate on getting to the finish. Trevor Mulligan is the 2nd best Escort and said he’s happy enough with the way its going. Declan McNaughton is 3rd in that cl.14 with his Mk2 said. “Nice flowing stages. We messed up a bit In stage 4 but enjoying it. Stage 6 was very shiny and although it was dry it was still slippy”.

Kenny McKinstry is down in 18th place but had a decent enough time through stage 6 as he gets to grips with the McNamara Escort. Kenny said. “We’re going fine now. I’ve been playing about with the dampers and the car is getting better all the time”. Sam Moffett continues to lead group N. He changed two of his tyres during that loop and said it made “a serious difference”. Geoff McMahon is 3rd in group N and 2nd best Evo Challenge contender but he has a turbo problem on his car and doesn’t know if he can get it sorted for the final loop. Brendan Cumiskey is 4th GpN, 3rd best Evo. Mark Nangle in his Subaru is 2nd GpN.

Peter Wilson lost time when his Honda suffered a puncture. Sam & Alan Smyth had early brake problems with their blue Mk2 Escort but they recovered to hold 3rd in cl.13 behind Trevor Culbert/Martin Costello. Richard Whelan/Colm Fitzgerald lead cl.11 by 1s in their Civic from the Nova of Paddy O’Dwyer/David Byrne.
