Tim McNulty moved into the lead on the 2nd visit to the Loughduff stage, Tim’s Subaru was 3s quicker through the stage than Derek McGarrity’s similar machine. When Tim’s co driver Paul Kiely emerged from the car at service in control he grabbed a cigarette and said. “Its very hot in the car. But that was a perfect run, better now”. Derek McGarrity said. “I’m going to have to get my finger out”. Niall Maguire, winner here for the last 2 years, but seeing the chance of a hat trick fade, said. “I like the stages but this is as hard as the car will go. It just hasn’t got the legs of the S12 Subarus”. Melvyn Evans said he had a good run but interestingly he was only 4th fastest, 2s down on Maguire.

Garry Jennings got the mechanical problem with his Lancer engine sorted before stage 6 and turned in a very decent time to reinforce his GpN lead and 6th o/a. Eugene Meegan is 2nd in GpN. Sam Moffett has got ahead of Sean Flanagan for 3rd in the category. Trevor Bustard has retired his Lancer following the differential trouble. Jason McKenna stepped in to co drive at the last minute for Sam Moffett and Jason keeps his mobile phone switched on all the time as his baby son Harry is in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. We send baby Harry our very best wishes.

Rodney Wilton turned in an equal fastest Escort time with Daniel McKenna through stage 6 with Adrian Hetherington just 4s down on these two and Declan Boyle a further 5s back. None of those leading Mk2 drivers report any problems. In Class 13 Samuel Kelso still has the edge with Michael Conlon and Mervyn Wedlock hot in pursuit all in their Mk2 Escorts. Frank Cunningham/Des Sherlock have retired their Mk1 Escort because of fuel problems. Lloyd Hutchinson/Kevin Flanagan in their Mini Cooper were fastest class 9 crew through stage 4 so if they get the Mini to the finish they will win the special HASS driver of the day award. Jonny Leonard/Jackie Donaldson in the FAL Hire Micra have a good run so far to lead class 5. Jonny & Jackie are campaigning a Micra on the Border series and a Fiesta on the NI Championship and are hoping for recognition in the Hankook Young Driver Awards. Peter Wilson/Brian Daniels have had one major moment but otherwise a clean run in their Civic to lead cl.11 from Colm Brady in a similar Civic with Neil Pierce 3rd. Stephen Baxter/Martin Brady are leading cl.6 in their Fiesta from David Leonard/Adrian Foley (Saxo).
