News from the 11.56 mile Roughside stage is that Craig Breen was fastest by half a second from Gwyndaf Evans with Keith Cronin a further 1.7s in arrears. Alastair Fisher/Rory Kennedy had been in a very strong 4th place and stepping up their pace with every mile, but their Lancer transmission seemed to seize on the start line and the car had to be manhandled to one side of the track which would indicate retirement from the rally. Alastair’s retirement has brought Dave Weston Jnr into 4th. Dave is driving a very controlled rally. Evo Challenge leader Jonny Greer comes into 5th and is keeping Daniel Sigurdarson and Owen Murphy at bay. They are also chasing Evo points.

Elfyn Evans now comes into the top 10 in his Fiesta ST and once again Elfyn is doing a brilliant job. It is not often we have the pleasure of seeing a father and son in the top 10 of a British Championship rally. Robert Barrable continues to hold the lead in the Citroen Racing Trophy with Luke Pinder now into 2nd and Joe McGonigle 3rd. Donegal man Joe seemed to lose a bit of confidence in the dust last night and as he speeded up this morning he then found his C2R2 Max handling much more to his liking.

In the Pirelli Tour of Cumbria Rally Jonny Milner/Ian Windress in their Toyota Corolla WRC led after 3 stages by 5s from Roger Duckworth/Mark Broomfield in their Impreza WRC. Charlie Payne/Craig Thorley, driving a Focus WRC, were 3rd. Milner reportedly picked too soft a compound tyre this morning and in the words of his engineer Derek McGeehan, “Scalded 8 tyres and he was also on the wrong brake pads that were overheating”. In the various Historic categories Jonathan Gale in his Sunbeam Tiger led the B section from Graham Waite in his Volvo Amazon.

Normal front runner Dessie Nutt was 7m back, his Porsche 911 sliding at high speed into and out of a ditch on a tight right hander over loose into a left hander. Dessie was able to keep the car going but then had to stop and change a punctured tyre, plus the front wheels were badly askew. David Stokes led the section of Post Historics from the similar Escort of Jeremy Easson. In category 3 for classic cars running under the Historic banner, Nick Elliott led from Julian Reynolds, both in Mk2 Escorts.
Unofficial news coming in from SS8 is that Keith Cronin has lost a few more seconds to Craig Breen and Gwyndaf Evans which could make for a grandstand finish to this Pirelli Rally.
