Keith Cronin was fastest through stages 5 and 6 in the Dyfi forest complex to maintain his grip at the front of this Bulldog International Rally. Keith started those 2 stages 29.6s ahead of Alastair Fisher but the young Northern Ireland driver’s Lancer has ground to a halt, reportedly with damaged transmission. This leaves Scotsman Dave Weston Jnr in 2nd place, almost 1m20s behind the Pirelli Subaru of Cronin at the top of the field.

Young Elfyn Evans/Andrew Edwards continue to lead class R3 and are 11th o/a in their Fiesta. Mark Donnelly/Paddy Robinson are in 12th o/a and lead class R2 in their Citroen C2R2 Max. Max Utting is 13th in his Subaru. Jarkko Nikara is 14th in his Twingo and Dublin’s Robert Barrable is 15th, 3rd in class and 2nd Citroen.

Following the Panperthog stage Phil Edwards in his Subaru led the Clubman Rally by 34s from fellow Impreza driver Mike Tomkinson with another Subaru in 3rd driven by Paul Lomas. Edwards’ Subaru suffered fading brakes and was also jumping out of 3rd gear. Well down the list was Craig Teasdale whose Peugeot broke a throttle cable on the 1st stage and he was controlling the power by keeping his hand out of the window and yanking the cable, which was sticking out from under the bonnet. Adding to his woes was a broken gear lever. However Craig and his co driver Duncan Lilwall had a good arrangement going whereby the co driver changed the gears when necessary. Driver Craig is actually competing on the rally as part of his “Stag” celebrations before his forthcoming wedding.

The Challenge Rally contenders have just finished and Julian Wilkes/Will Rutherford (Nova) have won from Callum Black/Paul Wakely (MGZR). In the National Rally Alex Allingham/Mark Glennerster (Impreza) have taken victory from Paul Davy/Roger Allan (Impreza).

Finally for now we have just received very sad news from Ireland in that Paddy O’Callaghan (Paddy O as he was affectionately known) has passed away today. Paddy O was a real legend in every way. He will be very much missed. Our sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
