Although Craig Breen is shown as 2nd overall on the above leaderboard it would appear that his Fiesta has stopped somewhere between that 2nd stage and the time control here at service. The minutes are ticking away for Craig and he really should have been here by now. Reportedly his Fiesta engine is turning over but will not fire up.

Meanwhile Keith Cronin reported after his brilliant run on the opening stages. “I kept it clean and tidy and tried not to let the car run wide on to the loose. On the 2nd stage I baulked the car a little off the line and lost a couple of seconds. I feel overall I am braking a little early”. Alastair Fisher in 3rd place, possibly now 2nd if Breen does not appear, reported all well with the car and said. “I felt it was going alright”.

Gwyndaf Evans is still listed on the leaderboard but his Lancer is stuck at the passage control at the end of stage 2, and along with Breen has not yet made it here to the service time control.

Dave West Jnr in 5th said he had “quite a good run”. Jonny Greer said. “First stage felt good, on the 2nd I made a few mistakes early on which knocked my confidence at bit”. Euan Thorburn, listed at 8th o/a, lost time at the end of the 2nd stage when his Subaru suffered a damaged drive shaft and a broken anti roll bar bracket. David Bogie in 9th feels his car is down on power, just won’t take the gears going up the hills. Darren Gass rounds off the top 10 and he said. “I never went worse”. He went on to say that he didn’t get it together with his notes. Daniel Sigurdarson who has his sister Asta co-driving, told us he made a cautious approach as on his last 2 rallies he failed to finish. The Icelandic driver also said. “The stages are adorable, I am here mainly to support Gwyndaf Evans in the team competition. I stopped with him but there was nothing I could do”.

Further stories include: Jason Pritchard is lying just outside the top 10 and learning to drive his new Impreza. Robert Swann is struggling with the suspension on his Impreza, said it is too soft. That should be sorted here at service. Alan Cookson spun his Impreza in stage 2 but lost little time. Mark Donnelly in his Citroen C2R2 Max has moved into the lead of Class R2. Rantanen in the Twingo did lead that class but he had brake problems plus a misted up windscreen in stage 2 that cost some time.

In the Historic Rally the early times show Dessie Nutt leading the B category for pre 65 cars. Dessie’s Porsche is 52s ahead of Jonathan Gale in his Tiger following their opening stage which was Dyfi Main.
