Fastest over stage 7 Slieveanorra was Kenny McKinstry & Noel Orr by just 1s from Derek McGarrity. Alastair Fisher and Jonny Greer in their respective Lancers tied both 4s down on McGarrity. Kenny said that the stage was starting to cut up and get a bit rutted which probably accounts for why he was 5s down on his run over the same stage this morning. Derek McGarrity said. “That was better but we’re still not committing hard enough”. Alastair Fisher said that his Lancer had suffered a couple of hard impacts and its not a great stage for a group N car. Neil McCance and Raymond Johnston set respectable times both just a couple of seconds down on Fisher and Greer. Damien Tourish has the suspension on his Lancer fixed but he has lost a bit of the hunger and was 9s down on Johnston. Enda McNulty had a good run to hold 7th o/a and Enda could affect the points in the NI Championship as regards whether Donagh Kelly, Raymond Johnston or Neil McCance score top GpN points. Of course all points will remain provisional in any case because of uncertainty over bonus marshalling points.

Trevor Moore had the misfire on his Escort fixed for stage 7 and set a time of 7.09. Oran Donnelly leads the 2wd section now and is unofficially 11th o/a over half a minute ahead of Moore, but Oran was 6s down on Trevor through that stage 7. Trevor’s earlier misfire problem was down to a faulty crankshaft sensor. Trevor’s son Nigel is competing on the rally in his Nova and was leading his class until the car suffered a broken drive shaft in stage 6 and he lost several minutes. Ian Cochrane set a time just 1s down on Colin Britton through stage 7 and Ian is lying just outside the leaderboard on a total of 33.39.
