RALLY NEWS No.6 - After SS9 - Saturday @ 18:13:39

RALLY NEWS NO.6 Seaview Hotel Bunbeg/Saturday/Finish

UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 9 FINAL STAGE
1st (2) Niall Maguire/Enda Sherry (Impreza WRC) 1.19.11
2nd (1) Patrick Elliott/Paul Goodman (Impreza WRC) 1.19.33
3rd (5) Seamus Leonard/John McCafferty (Impreza WRC) 1.20.18
4th (6) Kevin Kelleher/Paddy Robinson (Lancer N) 1.20.56
5th (12) Damien Gallagher/Paul Garry (Escort) 1.21.54
6th (18) Declan & Brian Boyle (Escort) 1.21.55
7th (10) Camillus Bradley/Danny O'Neill (Escort) 1.21.56
8th (11) Eugene Ferry/Derek Heena (Escort) 1.22.33
9th (153) Gavin Harris/John McElhinney (Impreza N) 1.24.14
10th (21) Pat Kirk/Peter Ward (Lancer N) 1.24.20

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ABOVE LEADERBOARD IS VERY PROVISIONAL AND IS DERIVED FROM THE TIMES OF THE FIRST FEW CARS ONLY: IN ADDITION GARRY JENNINGS HAS REQUESTED A NOTIONAL TIME IN RELATION TO THE KEVIN BARRETT SS2 INCIDENT AND IF IT IS GRANTED HE WILL COME INTO THE TOP 5.

No doubts about the winner though – Niall Maguire/Enda Sherry turned in a superb performance through the day to take victory by 22s from Patrick Elliott/Paul Goodman. This keeps the Dunlop National C/ship very much alive going into the final round in Skibbereen. If Niall wins in Skibbereen a top 3 finish for Elliott will see him retain his National title. In HASS Border C/ship terms Thomas Carolan in Car 85 is currently leading cl.9 by a couple of seconds and if he holds on to the lead he will win the Border series. If he drops to 2nd in class in the final stage Niall Maguire will win. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Thomas Carolan/Declan Smith have won cl.9 and will win the Border.

There were several changes to the leaderboard late this afternoon. Manus Kelly was 5th o/a and leading the 2wd category when he retired his Escort due to a misfire. Danny McBride was into the top 10 and 2nd GpN but his Lancer stopped with a clutch problem in SS8. Brian Brogan stopped with mechanical problems when lying in the top 10. When the top cars reached the Seaview Hotel rally winner Niall Maguire paid great tribute to the organisers of the event. Patrick Elliott commented. “Not a bad day’s work. It was looking grim on the first couple of stages but we ended up with a good result on these tough stages. Its up to me to keep my nose clean in Skibbereen. I had no confidence on the first loop of stages today. On the 2nd loop I figured out a set up and got on to Niall’s pace on the 3rd loop”. Seamus Leonard overcame gearbox difficulties throughout the day and came back into 3rd place when he was awarded a notional time for the SS2 Barrett incident. Kevin Kelleher said. “We couldn’t have done much more today. Very happy with the result and winning GpN”.

Finally for now very well done to Tony Boyle and all his hard working Donegal MC team for putting on such an excellent event. We would like to say thank you to all the people who supported and helped with the RallyNews service. Thanks as well to Aidan Harper & Dougie Hughes and Timmy of the Seaview Hotel.
