Still no white smoke as regards the stage 2 time for Garry Jennings so Garry is still showing as well down the order although setting some cracking times. He was slowed a bit in stage 6 when he shaved a left hand corner just a little close and punctured a tyre which cost about 15s. Out at the front of the rally Niall Maguire extended his lead over Patrick Elliott through stages 5 and 6, Niall putting his increase in speed down to just sheer determination. Elliott feels that he is losing out slightly because of the passive differentials on his WRC S12B, so many square and tight corners, his Subaru is under-steering.

Kevin Kelleher continues to hold 3rd o/a and lead GpN although he was in a massive panic to get the car into service as there was a clutch problem with the Lancer. Seamus Leonard was very downhearted when he reached service, his 4th place now under pressure as his Impreza has lost 2nd and 3rd gears. Manus Kelly is now the highest placed 2 wheel drive competitor, Manus having a good clean run through those 3 stages. Declan Boyle had led but a rear steady bar on his Escort suspension broke at the end of stage 5 and he lost about 15s through S6. Trevor & Kenny Bustard went digging for peat at the end of stage 6 when their Lancer flew into the bog on a square right and it took them 5m to extricate the undamaged machine.

Camillus Bradley is 13s behind Manus Kelly. Camillus is having a clean run but told us he is running out of top speed on the big straights in stage 6. Danny McBride continues to hold 2nd in GpN although he said that his Lancer’s tyres really started to suffer towards the end of that 2nd leg. Conor Harvey softened the rebound on the suspension of his Civic and flew through the last 3 stages, moving well up the top 20. Noel O’Donnell continues to lead cl.12 in his 205 from Daniel Conaghan’s Escort with William Cavanagh in his cl.12 Escort in close attendance.

On the Tour of Mull Rally Denis Biggerstaff dropped a lot of time on stage 5 with a puncture but Denis and co driver Alastair Wylie are battling back and set a 2nd fastest time this afternoon. Dougie Hall leads in his Lancer.
