No times at the moment for Garry Jennings/David Moynihan who stopped at the radio point in stage 2 to report Kevin Barrett/Sean Mullally’s incident. Garry lost about 7m in the incident and is claiming for a “notional” time.

Out at the front of the rally Niall Maguire took the lead on the 2nd stage where he set a cracking time. However he then lost his momentum through stage 3 which has some very section which would suit Elliott’s Subaru 12B better, and indeed Patrick was fastest on that one to lead by 4s. We reported earlier that Kevin Barrett retired his Subaru on stage 2. Kevin led the rally after stage 1 and the news we got was that the gearbox was broken. However, Garry Jennings told us that Kevin’s Subaru hit the bridge on stage 2 and that is why he stopped with the radio car. We haven’t spoken to Kevin yet to get his side of the story.

Seamus Leonard is dropping time as 3rd gear is not working on his Subaru. Third is a very useful cog in these stages and Seamus is very frustrated. Kevin Kelleher admitted that he was very brave in his tyre choice this morning, overnight rain leaving the roads very wet. Manus Kelly was held up for approximately 20s behind Garry Jennings in stage 2 and he wasn’t a bit pleased! Trevor Bustard has had a couple of spins in his Lancer but besides that he just isn’t cracking it today and his total is 29.00. Declan Boyle has been having a fabulous run to hold 4th place in his Escort.. He did blot his copybook slightly when he crumpled the front left corner of the Escort against a bale/chicane in stage 3 on the main road section.

Pat Kirk is on a total of 28.36 not far off the leaderboard and Pat told us that he has had a frantic morning and the Lancer has been off the road 3 times. One of the offs was about 80 yards into a bog and Pat said. “It must be the only piece of Donegal with no rocks in it”.

Conor Harvey has had a miserable morning having spun his Civic several times and he said at service. “My rally starts now”. Samuel Kelso has damaged the exhaust manifold of his Escort and the car was sounding very sick indeed. More news later: BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON www.rallynews.net
