News from the Cathcart accident on stage 2 is that Matthew is well shaken and sore but unhurt. Co driver Martin Brady may have a broken right hand. Martin said the car got on the grass at a big jump and rolled many times over tree stumps. Martin told us the car held together well despite it being a huge accident.

At the front of the rally Sean Devine has built up a substantial lead but told us his Subaru is getting very sideways in places over the loose top gravel. Derek McGarrity lost a lot of time because his Corolla is suffering a misted up screen and he can’t see where he is going. He commented. “If I could see where I’m going the car would be great”. Kenny McKinstry lost a couple of minutes in stage 3 when his Subaru clutch pedal stuck down and the car had no drive. In stage 4 he also had clutch slip and a burst rear brake pipe. Alastair Fisher in 2nd had a very big moment on the compression dip in Carrigan, the car was on its nose for a long time and it has pushed up the chassis. Jonny Greer has had a good clean run to hold 3rd and he commented. “There is a serious amount of jumps on that long Carrigan stage”. Raymond Johnston has lost time when a turbo pipe blew off and the sump guard came adrift. His main group N championsh9ip rival Donagh Kelly has however stopped in stage 3.

PJ Gillespie’s Lancer is stuck in a stage 3 ditch. Brian McGillin’s Corolla is suffering from a misfire and gear change difficulties – he may pull out. Marty McCormack has put his Escort in a ditch at the chicane in stage 3. Vivan Hamill has put his Escort off the road also. Ryan Barrett is leading the Historics and his total is good enough for a top 10 place, 23.10. Phillip Hunter was 2nd but his Escort has stopped. Arthur Kierans’ Escort suffered a shattered front screen on the road section into service. Frank Kelly leads his class and said he had a kamikaze run over the long stage, Carrigan. He also said he is struggling with rear tyre wear plus a big fuel load making his car rather different to drive. Trevor Moore had a spin in the 2nd stage and stalled. Adrian Hetherington also spun his Escort. John McKeown had a puncture 3 miles from the end of the Carrigan stage and only had rear brakes for stage 4.
