RALLY NEWS NO.2 End of stage 2/Saturday Noon

UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 2 Big Dog
1ST (86) /Seab Devine/Tony McDaid (Impreza WRC) 5.44
2ND (7) Alastair Fisher/Barry McNulty (Lancer N) 5.49
3RD (5) Stevie Whitford/Jonny Hart (Lancer A) 5.51
4TH (2) Kenny McKinstry/Noel Orr (Impreza WRC) 5.52
5TH (4) Raymond John son/Rodney Hicks (Lancer N) 5.53
(8) Jonny Greer/Kirsty Riddick (Lancer N) 5.53

The above times are from the first few cars only as there was a blockage in stage 2 when Matthew Cathcart/Martin Brady crashed their Group N Subaru into the undergrowth. This held up some of the following cars so it will take a little time to sort out their stage times. The first couple of cars on the scene were Enda McNulty and Brian McGillin and both had really good times on the opening stage although McGillin has some small technical problem with the gearchange on his Corolla.

No.1 seed Derek McGarrity was in a real strop when he reached the end of the 2nd stage, his Corolla windscreen misted from wall to wall and his comment was far from suitable for RallyNews! No.2 seed Kenny McKinstry wasn’t exactly happy either, his Subaru having some ECU difficulties and also the clutch pedal stuck to the floor at one point. Kenny said. “It was a real panic to get the ECU re-programmed and we were arriving at some of the corners completely backwards”

Sean Devine was 3rd down the stage and he was pretty cool but did report the car sliding about a lot and he was nearly off the road on the opening stage. Keith Cronin & Greg Shinnors who were performing OO duties in their Lancer had remarked about the loose gravel on the top of the road and said they were treating it with respect and driving as a OO should. Their total after the 2 stages was 5.50 which would have been good enough for 3rd o/a.

Raymond Johnston reported no real difficulties although he said finding grip was the secret. Stevie Whitford, suffering slightly from jet lag after his Rally Australia trip, joked. “That’s a good way to shake the rust off in there.” Alastair Fisher commented. “You could get caught out so handy it is so slippy.” Errol Clarke’s total after stage 2 is 5.59. Cyril Doherty is on 6.09. Derek McGarrity is on 5.57.

Meanwhile looking outside the beautiful Fermanagh Lakeland for a second. Kris Meeke has moved up to 4th on Asturias Rally as he battles back after his puncture. There are just 3 stages left to go. Basso has just gone off the road for 6m and Kopecky leads which in IRC terms isn’t good for Kris. Hervia we believe is 2nd in the Skoda and Vouilloz is 3rd.
