Kenny McKinstry, co-driven this time by Manx man John Skinner, was able to relax a little through the final stage to score a relatively comfortable victory on this Orchard Motorsport Lurgan Park Rally. Eugene Donnelly was fastest through that final stage but there was no way he could close the 7s gap to McKinstry. There was a battle royal for 3rd place between Derek McGarrity and Darren Gass in their respective Subarus. Darren had got ahead in stage 7 by .2 of a second but McGarrity was the faster of the 2 by .4 of a second on the final stage. In an almost parallel situation Raymond Johnson and John McGlaughlin had a huge battle for Group N supremacy. Johnson led the category by just over a second after stage 6 but McGlaughlin got a huge turn of speed through stages 7 and 8 to win the category by just over a second.

Kenny McKinstry, now a record 11 times winner here at Lurgan Park, commented when he brought his Subaru into the finish. “The stages were great, a very good rally and I really liked the way everything ran on time.” Eugene Donnelly said. “I enjoyed it. It was a good day”. Derek McGarrity admitted to taking a few “wee chances” through the final stage. Darren Gass felt just a little let down at the anti climax and reckoned his Subaru chugged a little on the final straight, the hesitation caused by a low fuel level. Glenn Allen said. “It was a brilliant day”. Mark Doyle round off the top half dozen and he really struggled with his Celica’s clutch but happily made it to the end. John McGlaughlin said of his GpN win. “I wouldn’t want to be going any harder than I was at the end”. The Mk2 Escort Challenge went to Camillus Bradley. Wesley Patterson had led for most of the day but his Escort suffered a broken track control arm on the penultimate stage. Phillip Hunter came out on top in the Historic section from Stewart Clark. Alan Ring was lucky to make it through to the finish as his Lancer’s clutch pedal stuck to the floor on virtually the last corner of the last stage. Finally for now many thanks to everyone who helped us with the RallyNews today. Thanks as well to all who supported the rally and well done to the North Armagh club for putting on such a superb event.
