No sign as yet of Car No.30, the Escort of Viv & Paul Hamill. They were lying 2nd after stage 4, no reports of any problems in stage 5, but their Escort was reportedly pushing into stage 6. Michael Barrable/Dermot O’Gorman continue to lead the rally in fine style although their Focus WRC has developed a small glitch in the electronic gear change mechanism and Michael is having difficulty getting the car to change up the gears, but it seems to be shifting down OK. Michael said. “It didn’t really slow us. Really it is going well for us”. Mark Courtney’s Celica had shifted itself in the safe mode at the end of stage 4 and there is no sign yet of the Toyota here at service. As Kevin O’Kane used to say – “It its not the wheel it’s the barrow!” Adrian Hetherington has now moved into 2nd o/a and best 2 wheel drive. Adrian is insisting that he is being very cautious, but then cautious and ours would be two different things!

Neil McCance set exactly the same time through stage 6, Bellewstown, as on his first loop although he thought he was going harder. However he still leads group N and his nearest Evo Challenge contender John McGlaughlin by 29s. Although that is not a lot it should be sufficient barring mishaps. For his part McGlaughlin said. “I’m more confident now. I was 6s up on Neil through stage 6 but its too little too late”. Brian Brogan is lying 2nd in the 2 wheel drive race. Alan Carmichael crashed out on the sudden square left at the end of SS2. Mark Jasper continues to move up the leaderboard now that he has the handling of his 6R4 to his liking. Mark has bumped the front of the car but seems to have lost little time. Trevor Mulligan is another to get on the pace on that 2nd loop of stages. Tomas O’Rourke is the highest placed Civic after stage 6, 7s ahead of Darren McCarthy. Martin Cunningham has lost his momentum somewhat after hitting a bank in stage 5 when the throttle jammed open. The car looks a bit of a mess with damaged windscreen and bent rear beam. Early times from the Juniors show Kevin Gallagher in his Corsa leading by 1s from Marty McCormack. Jonathan Cunningham is 3rd, 19s back. Craig Breen is 4th, 21s back. Breen is having trouble with his new Fiesta cutting out. In the Citroen Racing Trophy early leader Sam Moffett had to retire with diff problems on his C2R2 which left Barry Evans leading from Adrian McElhinney with Mark Kane 3rd.
