The above times are from the early cars only as the stage was interrupted when car 18 Simon Kehoe/Ray Green crashed at junction 11. The first car on the scene was Marty McCormack in his Citroen C2R2 Max and he stopped to see if he could help so we have no times from Marty on. More news on that later.

At the front of the rally it was Keith Cronin/Greg Shinnors who were fastest. Keith said that the car was down on boost and although he was committed for the stage nothing was right. Kenny McKinstry was at stage finish as well and he muttered something like: “I wouldn’t like to see his time if everything was right!” Patrick Elliott was first on the road and he reckoned his Subaru suspension was set too stiff. Niall Maguire reported that he didn’t really get into the flow of the stage. Slievenamon has of course always been a very difficult road. Kevin Barrett was 3s down on Maguire but as well as that he was conscious that Keith Cronin was catching him towards stage finish which is always a bit off putting.

Garry Jennings said at stage finish. “It was a disaster”. We think he also meant that he just couldn’t get the flow. Kevin Kelleher felt there was a drive shaft damaged on his Lancer. Thomas Fitzmaurice said that his suspension seemed to be a bit soft but in overall terms the car was better than before. James Foley has had some suspension work done by Derek McGeehan on his Evo 10 and James reckons the car is better than he is now and he’s having trouble keeping up with it! Eamonn Daly backed off slightly towards stage finish as he caught up with Thomas Fitzmaurice. Young Dave Weston, on his first Irish rally, had a very good run although scores down the sid3e of his Impreza N14 bore testimony to cutting a chicane very tight.

Some further times include Mike Quinn in the Escort recording 9.11: John Somers in the Celica 9.14: Eddie Power in the Corolla WRC 9.21.
Finally for now the organisers have asked us to point out that there are some competitors cars in the Aldi car park beside parc ferme and this is private property. The vehicles need to be moved immediately please!
