The Staarvey and Tholty-y-Will stages brought no significant change at the top end of the leaderboard but further back there were a few dramas. Local driver Steven Quine
Who was up as high as 2nd overall seems to have disappeared from the classification. Steven who has Richard Skinner co-driving in his Lancer reportedly is stopped at the end of Tholty-y-Will, his car suffering a differential problem. Alan Cookson has dropped a few places, his Subaru may have suffered a puncture. Simon Hughes has dropped out of the battle with Danny Barry for Evo Challenge supremacy. The car is still going but is down in 18th place following firstly a drive shaft problem and then an accident. Simon reported that he got a wheel on the grass and the car took off over bumps and damaged the front and rear but still seems to be driving reasonably well. Hopefully the damage will be repaired within the allotted time at service.

Out at the front of the rally when Paul Bird came into service he said. “We’re still taking lumps of time but the car feels lively. Its crashing out on bumps although I’m being fairly conservative”. One of Paul’s engineers was standing by and they were discussing raising the ride height of the Focus. Marcus Dodd lost quite a few seconds when he spun his Hyundai in a major fashion in the farmyard in Staarvey. Melvyn Evans has had a good run over the last few stages and reports no problems. Roger Duckworth dropped a few seconds with a puncture in the Kella stage otherwise he reckons he would have been closer to Melvyn Evans. It was a front right tyre that deflated and they kept pushing to the end of the stage. The car wouldn’t turn very well on left hand corners which is hardly surprising as the tyre was gone by stage finish!

Danny Barry had a major moment at a 1 right over jump in Tholty-y-Will, the car landed in a ditch and punctured a front tyre. Nik Elsmore has aggravated an old elbow injury and his Lancer suspension is still not to his liking,. The car is stepping out over bumps but still going very well and holding 2nd in the Evo Challenge. David Mann got a new drive shaft fitted to his Subaru and has been adjusting the suspension and has charged on to the leaderboard. John Stone has retired his Metro 6R4 following some transmission problem. The team changed the centre differential and gearbox but the car still wasn’t driving properly so John has withdrawn. Noel Kelly had a few dramatic moments last night running his Lancer on slick tyres but had a good steady run this morning to move into 12th. Nigel Cannell is now up to 14th in his new Lancer just over 20s behind Andrew Leece in 13th.
