This makes it 6 times that Niall Maguire has won his home rally and it is the 3rd in a row for his co driver Enda Sherry. Niall had to work hard enough for this latest victory, the wet roads making it tough towards the end and he said. “I tried to keep up the speed from the National championship. We had a couple of moments in the middle loop on slicks. It was a good rally, well organised, all I need now is Kevin Barrett to stay tonight and buy some drinks!” Adrian McElvaney/Paul Kelly in 2nd place battled all day with a troublesome gearbox selection and a beaming Adrian said at the finish. “I was just glad to keep it all together, make sure a bag full of neutrals didn’t land me at the side of the road”. Kevin Barrett in 3rd said. “I’m happy out, I enjoyed the day”. Sean Gallagher in 4th certainly shook off the cobwebs and his Impreza ran well. Gary McPhillips had lots of dramas on his way to 5th o/a and best 2 wheel drive just ahead of Des Moore in his Escort. Moore kept the pressure on right to the end but throttle cable trouble on stage 3 meant he wasn’t going to finish best Escort. Maurice Moffett took 3rd best 2 wheel drive and he had a real battle towards the end as a vibration in his Starlet made it quite a handful.

Danny & Rory McBride have won the group N category, unofficially from Gary Cairns/Justin Doyle who finished just outside the top 10. Anthony Hand had a great run in his 1600 Escort to win his class and unofficially Daniel Conaghan has won class 12 in his Escort by a narrow margin from Noel O’Donnell in his Peugeot. Mac McKenna was just pipped for class 13 by Raymond Conlan. Mac had a spin in the last stage which cost him quite a few seconds.

In the Citroen Racing Trophy young Sam Moffett has won by 2s from Martin Tynan with Adrian McElhinney a further 5s back. Times are still of coursel all provisional.

The Drive of the Day Award in the HASS Border Championship for fastest Class 9 time in stage 4 provisionally will go to Thomas Carlan/Declan Smith in their Escort. Noel Lappin did set the fastest Cl.9 time but we believe he may have since retired from the event. This is unconfirmed at the moment.
On Rally Argentina Sebastien Loeb has won with Sordo 2nd and Henning Solberg 3rd. Nasser Al-Attiyah won the PWRC category and was 8th overall.

Finally for now our thanks to everyone who helped and supported the RallyNews service this weekend. Our thanks also to Cora Maguire for all her help and to Dougie Hughes for distributing the RallyNews bulletins.
