Mark Higgins was fastest through stage 5 where Guy Wilks had a small problem and then the rally leader re-exerted his superiority through stage 6. Keith Cronin was right on the pace through both stages but his Lancer has a small turbo problem which may or may not be sorted here at service. Wilks told us. “In stage 5 we had a bit of glass or something jammed in the throttle and I arrived into a downhill square left junction flat in 6th gear and the throttle wouldn’t close. I had to put my foot underneath the pedal and lift it, we nearly stopped then on the junction which cost a few seconds. The glass came from the broken rear screen last night. Otherwise not too bad”. Mark Higgins reported a slight exhaust manifold piffing but otherwise OK.

David Bogie said he’s really pleased with the way its going. He did try to change the front tyres between 2 stages but the jack wouldn’t lift the car high enough. He said “The 2 tyres were still on and they were only fit for the silage pit”. David went on to say. “Its so quick now, the weather is fantastic, dust not too bad”. Dave Weston continues to hold 7th and survived a moment in stage 6. Jonny Greer in 5th commented. “I’m getting the hang of it. It only took me a year!”

Phillip Morrow/Simon Morrow have been sidelined in stage 5. They were a very solid 3rd but their Lancer has slid into a ditch and they couldn’t get it out. Jonny Greer has set a couple of good times through the last 2 stages, Jonny 3rd fastest in stage 6 and 4th fastest through 5. In both stages just a second or two quicker than Alastair Fisher. Adam Gould has been reported as stopped in stage 5 with mechanical trouble and there was a small fire in his Impreza. Andreas Sjolander is running in Super Rally and he had a 4th fastest time through stage 4. Danny Sigurdarson was into the top 10 dropped back to 11th with a bad time in 4 and has now moved back into the top 10 again. It transpires that Danny’s Lancer fell on to its side in a ditch and the spectators got him going after about a minute. He said. “it’s a sunny day, its improving every stage!”

No times coming in from stage 6 for Matti Rantanen in the Clio. It appears that Matti’s Clio could be stuck in a ditch at the end of a long straight in stage 6. There were several straight flat crests and then one had a slight left hander over it and the Clio is apparently in the right hand ditch. Fastest 2 wheel drive car over the last few stages has been Marty McCormack while Craig Breen has moved to the head of class R3 and leads the Fiestas. Joe McGonigle was fighting for the class R1 lead with Luke Pinder but Muff man Joe put his Civic off the road and lost about 7 minutes but finished the stage with no real damage. Luke Pinder continues to lead the class with the similar Swift of Molly Taylor 2nd and Richard Sykes 3rd.

Early news from the Pirelli Tour of Cumbria: The top drivers have just completed their opening stage, Pundershaw 1, and Paul Bird leads by 5s from Steve Perez in their respective Focus WRCs. Danny Barry and Simon Hughes are 3rd and 4th in their Lancers. Marcus Dodd is 5th in his Accent. Nik Elsmore is 6th (Lancer).
