Liam McCarthy was 4s faster than John Dalton through stage 11. Despite the continued 5th gear trouble with his Subaru Denis Cronin was less than a second down on Dalton. Liam McCarthy changed a sensor in his Corolla engine and there has been no more overheating trouble. Manus Kelly/Donal Barrett were 6th overall and crashed out in stage 11. Leonard Downey in the Escort and Marty McCormack were held up slightly at the scene of the accident.

Liam Egan’s Lancer has blown a turbo and the Derek McGeehan/James Foley mechanics are working flat out to get the car going. Liam who has flown in from New York to do the rally lost a lot of time yesterday when the power steering failed on the Lancer. In the Citroen Racing Trophy Adrian McElhinney has taken up where he left off yesterday by leading with Sam Moffett 2nd and Barry Evans 3rd.

In stage 12 Keith Cronin was fastest by a split second from John Dalton who was a second up on Liam McCarthy. Marty McCormack crashed his C2R2 Max off the road in stage 12 and Gwyn Thomas pulled his Puma GT into the side of the road. Liam McCarthy had a major moment at the end of Rossmore when a marshal was caught unawares and was standing out in the middle of the road. John Dalton is going to fit new tyres for this loop to keep the pressure on McCarthy. Denis Cronin spun and stalled his Subaru. Keith Cronin said after his fastest time in Rossmore. “We seem to go well in that stage I was comfortable, not pushing”. Frank Kelly says he is now in conservation mode. Damien McCarthy is still doing a brilliant job but really struggling with his Civic’s gearbox and may make a decision here at service on whether to continue. Stanley Ballantine is now 2nd GpN as well as 2nd Evo and he commented that he found those last 2 stages very tricky. Diarmuid Keohane (No.33) has retired his Escort with a broken axle. Tom White is doing the Sunday run which is a separate day for the Evo Challenge runners. Tom retired yesterday with a broken gearbox and he seems to have gearbox trouble again today. Mark Nangle is running a standard engine on his Impreza and is 3rd GpN but is losing time to Stanley Ballantine over these fast stages.

Frank O’Mahony has asked us to pass on his thanks to the following for assisting with the Paul Gallagher Fund effort in the OO Metro 6R4: Jim Crozier for the Sunoco Fuel: Christie Carey for the HANS device: Aidan Walsh for the helmet: EARS for balaclava: John O’Leary Motorsport and all others who have given support.
