Niall Maguire was emphatic when he arrived at the Hotel Kilmore Cavan rally finish, the Monaghan man taking the win today by just eight seconds from a hard charging Patrick Elliott.  Maguire is a multiple Cavan rally winner and today he showed his class with a controlled drive over the final stages while under intense pressure from local man Patrick Elliott.  Maguire could not contain his joy and praised the rally “this has been a fantastic win for me – it has been a long time but this was a brilliant event  but at the same time very tough”.  Patrick Elliott was the first man up to congratulate Maguire, Patrick was fastest over the final three stages chipping away at the lead and if it had not been for his earlier puncture that elusive Cavan Rally win might very well have been in his grasp.  Adrian McElvaney endured a fraught rally but showed real class to bring his Impreza home in third.

Gary McPhillips and Maurice Moffett had a fantastic battle for top 2wd but today nobody had any answer to McPhillips and a superb drive has netted him a fantastic fourth overall and equally impressive turn of speed from Maurice Moffett saw him score a fine fifth.

Alan Ring is the GpN winner today bagging a bunch of points towards the Dunlop championship and the Patterson’s RallyNews award.  Sean Flanagan takes second in the category despite a spin in stage eight while Eamon Daly drops back to tenth and third in GpN after a stage seven puncture.  Trevor Bustard takes fourth today and twelve overall.  Late retirement was Russell Woods who succumbed to mechanical failure.

Finally for now many thanks to the people who supported the Rally News service and people who helped us out in the field today.  Well done to Cavan Motor Club and in particular COC Marty Sherlock on another superb Cavan Stages Rally which he ran under some difficult circumstances.  A special thanks today goes to the McKinstry Motorsport team who kindly helped us out with some technical problems today.
