Patrick Elliott lost the lead of his local Cavan Stages Rally when he spun his Elliott Construction Impreza on the second stage.  Patrick reckons that he chose the right tyre it is just that the stages are generally very slippy.  Niall Maguire has moved into the lead by three seconds courtesy of a fastest time on stage two the 16.3kms Drumhillagh test, six seconds faster than Michael Barrable but more importantly 16 seconds faster than Elliott.  On the third test of the first loop Kevin Barrett went fastest on a 8.29 four seconds up on both Barrable and Maguire and Elliott one second further back, a pretty close battle.

Kevin Barrett dropped out of the picture when he punctured on stage two dropping almost two minutes to the rally leaders, Co driver Sean Mullally telling us that they are not going to give up and will push over the next loop of three stages.  Seamus Leonard lost a lot of confidence after his first stage spin but reckons he is slowly getting back up to speed.  Michael Barrable is setting a good pace in his Focus but has resigned himself that his first stage time loss will probably stay unchanged and as he says himself these things happen in rallying.

Adrian McElvaney is running again and it seems that there was a problem with a brake cable connected to the peddle and Adrian was able to do some running repairs in dead time at the start of stage one.  We have assumed a nominal time for the first test after it was interrupted and Adrian’s pace over stages two and three have put him solidly into the top ten for now.

Gary McPhillips is setting the stages alight in his Mk2 despite an overshoot on stage three and he now lies an impressive fourth overall.  Rodney Wilton did not appear here at service so his fine run seems to have come to an end.  Damien Gallagher was another to suffer a spin in stage three and lies just outside the top ten.

In GpN Alan Ring now leads by just ten seconds from Danny McBride.  Willie Fannin lost almost six minutes when he stopped to change a puncture in stage two.  Sean Flanagan picked too soft a tyre and they went off for the whole loop while Eamon Daly is having all sorts of problems in his Lancer including too hard suspension and anti – lag problems.
