On our last RallyNews we mentioned that Stanley McKeown and Donal Sweeney were into the top ten – Sweeney is now 11th, Niall Devine 12th and Stanley McKeown 13th.

Possibly stung by Desi Henry’s fastest time through stage 5 Martin McCormack responded in style by being quickest through stage 2. Peadar Hurson retains 3rd in his Fiesta WRC but has no answer to the two R5 cars in front. Jonny Greer has not appeared as yet into service, more news on his Citroen DS3 to follow.

Despite Marty McCormack being fractionally faster through stage 6 Desi Henry’s lead is looking fairly safe with just one loop of 3 stages to go. Desi commented on his way into service. ‘We are very comfortable with the pace, yes I did push on in stage 5, but I am trying to get the speed up for the Ulster Rally’. Marty McCormack said ‘Yes, we did have a good sail at stage 6’. When we asked him if this was in response to Henry’s time on 5, Marty just gave a wee smile. When Peadar Hurson looked at the times of the two R5 cars on front he said. ‘I have more to learn about this car and there is a bit more left in it, but we are getting there’. Kenny McKinstry maintains a good top 6 place and the Banbridge man laughed as he recounted – ‘I swallowed a fly half way through that stage and then I couldn’t concentrate. It could have been worse, there was a wasp in the car earlier!’.

Phillip Allen recorded a great time through stage 6 and he said. ‘This is my first ever rally and it is good. But the spin in stage 3 ruined the day’. Damien Toner is still producing massive speed through the stages even though he was on too soft a tyre for that last loop. Adrian Hetherington was disappointed he could not get closer to the flying Toner Escort in front and Adrian said. ‘That was disastrous’. Niall Henry in his Lancer said he had a great run round that last loop. Danny Barry is struggling on and setting decent times despite the car still suffering a slipping clutch. Greg McCormack is another having a ball today and thoroughly enjoyed driving the Skoda as well as having wife Caroline co-driving. Jonny Greer has been reported as stopped in stage six with the bonnet of his Citroen up.

Barry Morris put a great big dent in the driver’s door of his black Escort in stage 6, he lost about 10s. William Creighton continues to lead the R2 division in his Peugeot 208. We have no times as yet for Kyle White and Calvin Beattie. Calvin had to stop in stage 5 for an accident involving another competitor. Paul Britton in his Lancer has retired following brake failure. Looking back a few stages – Stanley Orr led the Historic category from Drew Wylie with Stephen Mawhinney 3rd.

Niall Devine leads Group N ahead of Clive Kilpatrick – both in Lancers. On Rally Finland Latvala’s Toyota has stopped on the 2nd run over Ouninpohja. Lappi now leads by 54s from Hanninen with Sunninen and Evans in close attendance. Craig Breen is 5th and Meeke 7th.
