Sunny conditions and mostly dry roads greeted the drivers on this Stonethrowers Rally. Patrick Elliott was first on the road and said at stage finish that he felt that he was a little slow starting and had been unsettled also when there had been some confusion with the start clock.

Niall Maguire reported a good run while Aaron MacHale, on his first rally since the Jim Clark, having got married in the meantime, reckoned he was just getting back into the swing.

Kevin Barrett said he had a decent enough run through that first stage while PJ McGrath said the conditions were slippy and he struggled a little.

Eamonn Daly should have been the first group N car through but in the fact the first production machine into the village of Ardfinnan was Alan Ring. He said that he forgot to switch the anti lag on. Daly eventually arrived having dropped several minutes, he reported that the turbo boost was right down on his Lancer and it just wouldn’t pull.

Keith Cronin had a great run to lead the group N category although he reckoned the suspension on his Lancer was a little soft. Today’s outing is a tarmac learning curve for the Billy Coleman Award winner before the forthcoming Ulster Rally.

Trevor Mulligan was fastest of the 2 wheel drive machinery. Maurice Moffett had an overshoot. Terence O’Shaughnessy reckoned his Corolla’s handling was all over the place. Liam Wall had a spin at the last junction.

Some further times: Shay Power 9.39: Alan Ring 9.30,7: Liam Wall 9.40.4: Russell Woods 9.30.0: Mick McQuaid 9.42.2: Anthony O’Halloran 9.43: Sean Flanagan 9.33.5:
