Please note the above times are from the end of the last stage. The cars have to reach the finish ramp at Ebrington to be classified. David Bogie’s Skoda has reportedly stopped in Plumbridge with wheel bearing trouble and until he gets to Ebrington the result is provisional.

For Elfyn Evans and his co driver Craig Parry in their DMack backed Fiesta R5 winning this John Mulholland Motors backed Ulster Rally has massive significance in that it also means that they have won the British Rally Championship. Elfyn drove an extremely impressive rally in difficult conditions. Whatever setbacks came his way he shrugged them off and got on with the job and led from stage 4 to the finish. It is 20 years ago that Elfyn’s father Gwyndaf also won this Ulster Rally with 1 round remaining and Gwyndaf also won that year’s British Rally Championship. It is the epitome of keeping it in the family. At the finish ramp Elfyn said. ‘The conditions were difficult for the rally but job done’. When it was mentioned about his father’s similar achievement 20 years ago Elfyn said. ‘He must be starting to feel old now!’ Queried on his next event he said. ‘The garage showroom on Monday!’ Alastair Fisher commented. ‘This was one of the toughest rallies I have driven in a long time, a proper rally!’

Behind Elfyn Alastair Fisher turned in a brilliant performance towards the end and with Gordon Noble in their Fiesta R5 took 2nd place. This means that Alastair goes to the final round of the Clonakilty Blackpudding Tarmac C/ship, the Cork 20 Rally, with a decent chance of taking the title, but it is still wide open. Keith Cronin seemed to be on course for 2nd place on the rally but a last minute gearbox change cost road penalties that moved him back to 5th. Jonny Greer drove brilliantly on the last few stages to try and keep Cronin at bay and he succeeded. David Bogie also went very well to hold on to his 4th place and Keith Cronin had to resign himself to 5th. The final round of the Tarmac is the Cork 20 and Alastair Fisher has 62pts with Keith on 60. Josh Moffett is 3rd in the C/ship. Josh slowed over the last few stages today as a broken exhaust made his Fiesta R5 difficult to drive.

Callum Devin had a great run over the weekend to win the R2 category. Rob Duggan and his co driver Ger Conway in their Vauxhall Adam did enough to clinch the British Junior title. Alan Carmichael/Ivor Lamont in their Mini WRC would appear to have won the National category of the rally. David Armstrong finished further down the list but now heads the Modified section of the Tarmac C/ship. Frank Cunningham leads the Historic points from Andy Johnson.

Finally for now congratulations to Clerk of the Course Gary Milligan and his organising team for promoting this very successful major event, the John Mulholland Motors Ulster Rally, and also thanks to everyone to helped and supported our RallyNews service.
