Derek McGarrity & Diarmuid Falvey in their Fiesta WRC led the rally from start to finish in a most impressive fashion despite constant pressure from Brendan Cumiskey & Ronan O’Kane in their Fiesta R5. Emma McKinstry/Kenny Hull put on a brilliant display in the left hand drive Impreza WRC S14. Derek McGarrity commented at the finish at Benone. ‘A brilliant rally. It was bang bang go go right through and we loved the format.’ For Derek today’s result will be a giant step forward on his way to his 7th NI Rally Championship title. Brendan Cumiskey said at the finish. ‘This sets us up well for the Ulster Rally’. Emma McKinstry commented. ‘I am chuffed to bits with the day and the result. I had a real worry towards the end as 2nd gear is gone. But we made it.’

The opinion of most of the drivers that we spoke to the finish was that it was a really special rally and fair play to CoC Bob McKeown for finding these stages.

Jonny Morrow who came through strongly towards the end of the day said. ‘We really enjoyed it although we messed up the tyres choice, but then everything clicked and the pace notes were perfect’ A last minute retirement was Sean Devlin. The engine of his yellow Anglia ceased.

Finally for now many thanks to those who helped and supported the RallyNews service and very well done to Bob McKeown and his Cookstown MC team as well as all the volunteers from all around the country who made the rally happen.
