Please note: Derek McGarrity/Barry McNulty (Fiesta WRC) are running with a 10m penalty, otherwise their total would 22.59.8 which would bring into 3rd o/a.
The big news from stage 7, the 2nd running of Wolfs Hill, is that Desi Henry, who had been leading, has slid his Skoda off the road on a very muddy 6 right tightens just before the logging site. It is very unlikely that Desi will get the car out of the ditch, and in any case his lead is well gone now. This leaves Marty McCormack leading and he said here at service. ?Everything is first class. We have made a few wee changes to the car. We adjusted the front differential setting, the low speed on the dampers and switched to a softer Kumo tyre as the stages have got wetter and muddier.? Second placed Derek McGeehan was kicking himself for having stalled his Mini at the start of stage 6. Derek said. ?I do not know how I let that happen. Otherwise all is OK. I am running a low gear in the car and I have got the back end sorted?. Brendan Cumiskey has come to the fore after the last few stages and that was despite running wide on the same corner that claimed Desi Henry. Brendan?s Skoda sustained a puncture at that point.
Niall Devine/Crawford Henderson in the Group N Impreza are going well and we have them on an unofficial total of 24.15.0 which is good enough for 6th o/a and leading group N. There does not appear to be a card for the crew after stage 7 so hopefully it will appear soon and they will be reinstated in the results.
In the two-wheel drive category Shane McGirr & Liam McIntyre in their Toyota Starlet continue to lead, Shane intent on keeping his drive neat and tidy in these difficult conditions. David Crossen/Chris McSherry had a very big moment in their Escort over a crest and fishtailed down the next straight but otherwise kept it all together and are 2nd 2wd ahead of John Gordon/Thomas Wedlock. Alan Smyth/Chris Mellie are leading class 4 in their Suzuki Swift, their first time out on the car on gravel. The reason for Shaun Sinclair?s retirement was that his Impreza suffered transmission trouble. Seamus O?Connell?s Escort has stopped in stage 7, reportedly with a mechanical problem. Mark Donnelly has put his Fiesta R5 off the road at a 5 left over bridge and would appear to be out of the rally. Brian McKelvey was up to 4th o/a after stage 5 but his Lancer has stopped in stage 7.
