There appears to be some technical problems at the moment in stage 5, hence the incomplete leaderboard above.
Desi Henry was fastest through stage 4, Glenshane, and Marty McCormack was quickest through stage 5, Banagher 2. Derek McGeehan was well in the hunt through both stages to hold 3rd place. Derek McGarrity had moved up to 2nd after SS3 but a 10m penalty has been applied to his times for not starting stage 1 as instructed. Without that penalty Derek would have been 4th after stage 5 on a total of 17.05.4.
At the finish of stage Desi Henry said that he could have gone a bit harder through that stage but was happy enough with his time. Derek McGeehan was held up slightly in the stage by Kenny McKinstry?s struggling Impreza. He has since returned to service reporting a broken brake pipe. Marty McCormack commented at the end of Banagher. ?Having a ball. No problems?. Brendan Cumiskey lost a few seconds in the Glenshane stage when his R5 had an overshoot at a junction. Michael Carbin reported no problems and he is going well. Darren McKelvey felt the stage was slippery than earlier, but set a nice time nonetheless.
Shane McGirr in his Starlet put a real big push on through stages 4 and 5 to unofficially move into the 2wd lead. Hugh McKenna had a bit of drama at the finish of stage 5 when he did not get a finish time on his card. Several drivers would appear to have stopped in stages 4 and 5 and that includes: Scottish visitor Shaun Sinclair as well as Mark Donnelly in the Fiesta S2000. Having said that, as we commented earlier, there is a bit of confusion at the end of stage 5.
In Group N after stage 3 Niall Devine in his Impreza had moved into the lead from Simon Woodside with Ashley Dickson despite spinning his Lancer in stage 3, up to 3rd. Young Adam Bustard was leading class 2 in his Fiesta. David Crossen has a less powerful engine in his Mk2 and was up to 3rd 2wd after stage 3. Mark Murphy had power steering difficulties with his Lancer through stages 2 and 3. He commented here at service. ?Lovely stages? while he hoked in his van for a bandage to repair a leaking power steering pipe.
