For Peadar Hurson and his co driver Damien Connolly today`s POC Oil backed Tyrone Stages Rally provided a start to finish win. Peadar`s Subaru gave some trouble with the digital read-out on the dash but other than it all went well. Former Irish National Champion Peadar commented at the finish. `We went hard enough, did our own thing. We enjoyed it, the stages were good and indeed the rally was good`. There was a massive battle between Frank Kelly and Camillus Bradley for 2nd place. On stage 5, Mucker, Camillus turned in a scorcher of a time to close to less than 2s behind Kelly. This meant that Frank had to drive like the wind through the final stage to take 2wd victory and 2nd o/a. Frank said. `I never drove as hard as I did on that last stage. Fair play to Camillus`. Mark Donnelly seemed to be well on course to finish 4th but his Lancer was parked after a vicious kick jump on the penultimate stage. Passing drivers reported no obvious damage so it is presumed that something broke in the transmission.

There was an upset as well in the R2 category. Rob Duggan and Jon Armstrong, in their respective Peugeots, were in a race to the line and 4th and 5th places o/a. However, Jon Armstrong`s Peugeot did not appear at the end of SS5 and his 208 was reportedly stuck with the back end in a ditch, and the nose in the air. This allowed Rob Duggan to win the category and to move into a clear lead in the CFR2 Road to Wales competition. Damien & Martin Toner produced some good times towards the end to move into 5th place, despite the Escort suffering gearbox troubles. Earlier today the car suffered twisted driveshafts that may have caused a vibration through the box.

Further stories include Keith McIvor`s Porsche picked up some good speed on the 2nd half of the rally after making some changes to the suspension. Seamus O`Connell had a good run to finish best of the Historic category and has won class 11. Stephen Mawhinney in his Sunneam Lotus won the other Historic class and was 2nd o/a in the Historic category. Clive Kilpatrick had a great run towards the end to win the Group N section by 17s from Simon Woodside. Geoff McMahon was slightly off the pace in the afternoon, as his Lancer seemed to be losing differential hydraulic pressure.

Finally for now well done to CoC Bob McKeown along with the Cookstown MC team and all the other volunteers who made this splendid rally possible. Many thanks to all who supported and helped with our RallyNews service, particularly Paddy McCollum on the results and John Conway for a very welcome cup of coffee!
