It is the halfway mark on this Orchard Motorsport Lurgan Park Rally and Garry Jennings has set fastest time on all 4 stages so far. Derek McGarrity in 2nd is pushing hard, but that last second or two escapes him. Kenny McKinstry is bursting with frustration but has dropped to 4th as his Subaru has again lost its turbo boost. Pat O`Connell is driving superbly to lead Group N and Wesley Patterson is the top Escort driver.
When Garry Jennings brought his Subaru in after stage 4 he commented. `We had a bit of an overshoot down at the fence. I had braked early so I would say other people will have a problem there as well.` Still, Garry was quickest. Derek McGarrity pushed very hard, but was almost 2s down on the flying Jennings` Subaru. This Mini WRC of Derek McGarrity`s is the last of the works cars built by Prodrive and was originally to a lightweight specification for Dani Sordo. However, Derek cannot squeeze that extra wee bit out to match Jennings. Derek did have a slight overshoot at a box junction. Kenny McKinstry remarked when he came in. `The car is worse than ever, no boost. How do you do 3 big days in Donegal with not a problem and then this` Derek McGeehan did admit to a couple of little silly slips but nothing serious. He was one of the few drivers to break the 2m barrier in the stage.
Kevin Barrett is really enjoying Lurgan Park, which of course he used to sponsor through his Triton Showers business, and he was quite pleased with his time through stage 4 which was a brand new format for him. Pat O`Connell was really pleased with his time and he said. `I concentrated on just keeping it very clean`. Marc Johnston turned in a good time with his GpN Lancer, having changed the front suspension set up. Darren McKelvey also went well. Paul Barrett admitted he was a bit messy. Keith White got the steering on his Mk1 Escort sorted and although he had a good time in stage 4, he lost too much in stage 3 to make any impression on the top Escorts. Frank Kelly is up to 12th o/a, 4s down on Wesley Patterson and Shane McGirr is just 1s down on Frank.
