The opening stage, `Fields of Hope` was very wet, very slippy and as one driver described it…`guttery`. As can be seen above, Desi Henry was fastest even though he felt he was not driving well and he said. `Like a granny`. Derek McGarrity told us at stage finish. `It was very slippy. I took no chances.` Alan Carmichael finished the stage with his Mini WRC all steamed up inside, but still set a very good time. Alistair Cochrane brought his Escort into the finish of the stage with bits of hedge sticking out of various orifices and he said. `I think I was in every hedge!` Camillus Bradley had a good run. His feeling was. `It was hard to have confidence after the Circuit accident and it was so slippy in there`.
Shane McGirr spun his Starlet at a square left corner and finished the stage with the time of 4.39.6. Tom Curley made the trip from Galway to compete for the first time in an ex Connor McCloskey Impreza WRC. Tom took it very cautiously and his time was 4.53.6.
Some other times included – Niall Henry 4.47.1: Colm McFall 4.33: Ashley Dickson 4.37.7:
